Alta Bakery and Cafe is excited to announce a new exhibit of photographs by Rachael Short in our dining room, the Diaz Adobe. Come view Rachael's beautiful work at 502 Munras Avenue (open daily, 7am-4pm) and enjoy breakfast or lunch plus our breads, pastries, sweets, and coffee and tea.

Ever since she picked up her father’s camera at the age of twelve, photography has remained Rachael Short's passion. In 2000, this California native moved to Santa Barbara to study photography at the Brooks Institute of Photography. Over the following decade Rachael established a thriving wedding photography and portraiture business. In addition, with an artist colleague she launched Gallery EXPOSED in the heart of Carmel. Her formal shooting pursuits ended abruptly in 2010 when her neck broke in a car accident, leaving her a quadriplegic.

Rachael now divides her time between physical therapy and capturing images with her iPhone. Photographs of nature, people and places allow her to explore the relationship between light and shadow—images she transforms into platinum prints.

The Entertainment Schedule for Boogie Music Festival: Remixed is out!

It's out and it's a who's who list of local musicians in the South Bay. If you don't know any of them, just show up. There'll be four stages going all day and chances are you'll really like at least one of the acts at any given time. It'll be hard to go wrong here.

Please visit the entertainment schedule page on the official Boogie Remixed website for more information about the performers or to learn more about the festival.

Please wear a mask!

Even though all of the live entertainment will be outdoors, we encourage you to wear a mask even if you've been vaccinated. Let's have fun, but err on the side of safety until we get out of this Delta wave.

Also, not only are we dealing with a stubborn pandemic, but the air quality may be sub-par from wildfires depending on which way the wind blows.

Monterey Peninsula Unified School District's Superintendent PK Diifenbaugh has issued an important message to all MPUSD families outlining additional steps the district is taking to protect students from Covid-19. Please read the full message here.

Of Note: Free Covid Testing

COVID-19 Home Test Kits: MPUSD is purchasing ‘home test kits' for families of students on modified quarantine so that required COVID testing can be performed at home free of charge, and to ensure students can remain at school provided that students are asymptomatic and test negative twice within a 10-day period.

Centralized COVID-19 Testing: Beginning in early September, MPUSD will be partnering with Lightspeed Testing to ensure families/students have access to free testing twice a week at a centralized location. Everyone can find a variety of current weekly testing locations here.
