San Jose Spotlight recently featured Darling & Fischer Memorial Chapel in Downtown Campbell in a story about how the Covid-19 pandemic has changed funerals and our grieving process. It's worth a read. It's a sobering account of the difficulty of the times we're facing.

Nicholas J Welzenbach, the director of Darling-Fischer is featured briefly in the story. He recently did a podcast on why so many of us feel so funked out even if we're doing pretty well personally despite everything that's going on around us. It's because we're going through grief.

If you'd like to understand our collective societal funk better, Nicholas recently recorded a podcast you may be interested in. It's part of his Guiding Grief podcasts and it's about grief in the time of Covid-19.

Hello Booklovers and Friends of Recycle Bookstore!! We need books!

I have reached out to everyone for help and you have responded wonderfully with donating money to our GoFundMe page and ordering books for curbside. Your response has been humbling and has brought me to tears a couple of times. But we need people to do one more thing for us. Our life's blood is people bringing books to us and that is not happening for obvious reasons and we need to be stocked up and ready to go when things open back up. We will need a fast start to make up for our losses and we can't do that if we don't have good books!

So we are asking you to help us by DONATING QUALITY USED BOOKS (please don't dump moldy books and old textbooks at our doorstep!). We can also offer trade... if you give us your address we can send a trade card to you. We are open for donations/trade from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the SAN JOSE location only!! Just drop them off near the front door and knock on the door if you have questions.

We are also always looking to buy whole book collections , from people who are moving or from people who have recently passed.

Here is what we would love to Have:

1. STANDARD CLASSICS (Steinbeck, Orwell, Pynchon, Dostoyevsky, etc...).

2. CHILDREN'S BOOKS (Mostly current and semi-current popular titles and classics in good shape)

3. SCI-FI AND FANTASY (Current and classic series are welcome)

4. CURRRENT POPULAR FICITION (Whatever is somewhat current and popular, whether current literary fiction or current mysteries)

5. ANYTHING MORE RECENT: like self-help, business, science books, nature books, etc...

5. BOOKS THAT ARE WEIRD AND QUIRKY:

6. New Releases, Current Bestsellers and Book Club Picks

If you are not sure about your books, please give us a call at 408-286-6275 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Share the news with your friends!

Drop off and questions answered at the San Jose store only, 1066 The Alameda M-Sat 10-2. 408-286-6275

We've had many entries into the monthly prize drawing for the Downtown Campbell Survival Project. Thank you to all who entered, and if you haven't entered yet, you still have two weeks to get with the program for a chance to win one of six $50 gift cards of your choice selected from the Downtown Campbell Gift Card Directory.

If you've already entered, you can enter again and again by making a purchase from any business that's in our business directory or by sharing and liking any Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram post made by the official Downtown Campbell account that's been tagged with #VivaDTC.

Each week you have more ways to enter the drawing because each week another one of our retailers comes online with more online shopping options to let you get your usual items while supporting your favorite merchants. We also have an expanding Shelter-In-Place dining guide of restaurants offering curbside pick-up or delivery in the Downtown Campbell area.

The first prize drawing will be held next week on May 10th! Thank you all for continuing to support us as you can. We know many of you are hurting just as bad as our shopkeepers are and we hope that some of the gift cards will go to people who could really use them.

Dear Academy Dancers and Friends,

We want to take a moment to reach out and let you know how much we miss seeing everyone at the studios. We are enjoying our online classes and are grateful we can still teach and connect with our dancers during this time.

We have adult classes running online that would be fun for anyone to try. There is no better time to try something new, or something you haven't done in a long time. Mondays 7:45-9pm and Wednesdays 2:30-3:30pm, send us an email and we'll get you signed up.

One unfortunate outcome of the SIP is the postponement of our Spring performance of Cinderella. The dancers and I were so excited to bring you this wonderful ballet. We are hopeful we will be able to present it later in the Fall 2020 Semester. We will send out updates as soon as we can!

The current Spring Semester is scheduled through June 13. We hope to offer classes in the two weeks after Spring and leading up to our Summer Semester. The studio is typically closed for those two weeks, but we want to be able to offer classes during this time, in whatever format possible.

We are unsure if we will be able to hold the Summer Intensive as we have in the past, but we will offer what we can in any format we are able. If you are interested in any upcoming classes please let us know so we can be sure get you information on scheduling, tuition and other details as soon as we have those details. You can also find us on our social channels to stay up to date.

Interim Classes: TBA June 15-26
Summer Dates: June 29-July 31
Fall Semester Starts: August 17

In the meantime we would love to hear from you and let us know how you are doing, what you are enjoying about our online classes, and how you keep dancing during this time. Stay well everyone.
Sincerely,

Crystal Petzel

Taqueria del Mar has recently reopened for take-out and pick-up orders! Whether you're a fan of the squid burrito, the chicken enchilada, the fish sope, or the artichoke taco, it's great news. Give them a call at 831-372-7887.

Head cook Nicholas Gasca has worked at Taqueria Del Mar since 1988 and became the owner in 1996. This is truly a small, family-run establishment that's been feeding New Monterey and its guests for decades at 530 Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey.

DIY Art Projects from the Art Beat

Posted on April 25th, 2020 by Art Beat Studio

The Art Beat now has an online store to help you stay at home and keep the peace with DIY art projects. You'll find dozens of DIY projects to help you or your little ones to stay stimulated while sheltering.

The online store features a lot of fun ceramic bisques that you can choose from as the starting point of your project. Pick the ones you want to paint and then pick the type and color of the paints you want to use. You'll have a variety of acrylic or glaze paints to choose from.

Your order will be ready for you for curbside pickup or you can have it delivered for a flat fee of $10. After the household creative muscles have been flexed, just bring the glaze painted ones back to the studio to be fired. If you're working with acrylic paints, you can go ahead and enjoy your creations. Those don't need to come back for finishing.

They also have other fun DIY art projects that you can get in their online store. New things are still being added so if there's something you want that seems to be missing, just call 408-370-5002 or email create@theartbeat.net.

Deb Rohzen has been around here so long, she's an institution. On top of the Covid-19 economy, she's also recovering from a (mild) stroke. She will make a full recovery and her boutique isn't going anywhere, but she'll need to slow down for a few months to do some rehabilitation and build her strength back up.

This GoFundMe campaign is for both Deb and her shop, Simply Smashing Boutique. It's for both because there's just no way to separate Deb from Simply Smashing and vice versa. They've been conjoined twins ever since she opened up shop in 2000.

I know there's a lot of GoFundMe's going around and it gets overwhelming, but please take a moment to look at this one if you have the means to help.

Remember to email proof of donation of $25 or more to VivaDTC@downtowncampbell.com to enter our monthly drawings for prizes to thank you for supporting our merchants through this very difficult time.

Dance Effects teaches skills to its young dancers to become better dancers and resilient young adults. During the pandemic, their dance lessons have gone virtual over zoom and some of the pep-talks about rising above failure are reinforced over social media.

Dance Effects: Every single person on this planet makes mistakes. It's what we do after we make them that matters. Do you give up, pretend like nothing happened, own up, or try again? We can learn to make good choices after a mistake. What would you do?

Cheers to thirsty Thursday! Come in and grab one of our new beers Stone Buenaveza Salt & Lime Lager and ask about our collection of craft beers! This Lager is ultra crisp, refreshing and very balanced. It has a slight tartness with light lime bitterness and a refreshing, drying character.

Warm weather calls for beers ? and sake bombs ?! Order your beer and sake to-go and make your own happy hour at home!

Order from Sushi Confidential's full menu for take-out or delivery. Add some sake to keep it Japanese or pick up some brews from Strike Brewing Co. or Cocktails from Los Gatos Soda Works. For dessert, grab a pack of cupcakes from Frost Cupcake Factory!

If you can be anything in this world, please be kind. If you can't be kind then maybe you need to be a Unicorn! We can help you make that a possibility.

Start off with purging your old self with Unicorn Barf sour candy and Unicorn Yak Soda. Are you tasting the rainbow yet? If not, you'll also get Skittles, Starbursts and Krispy Kreme jellybeans with sprinkles.

Then complete your transformation into the better you with the included unicorn headband, unicorn bobble head, unicorn key chain, and unicorn finger puppet.

All of this is surrounded by gummy butterflies and cup cake jelly bellies and it's packed up in a nice therapeutic box for just $50! It's so much cheaper than therapy therapy.

Only at Rocket Fizz Campbell... I may need another hit of that Unicorn Yak.

All right, I am calling in the Drill Sargent of Positive Energy, we have a situation here! (That is correct THE Bob Ross was in fact a Drill Sargent)

As tribute we have the Bob Ross Box! You get a Positive Energy Drink along with Happy little Tree mints. Plus you get 2 Bob Ross pins so you can take your "Ross-i-tude" with you as you go. I threw in some Dots, because painting's just a bunch of dots, sometimes connected together. How about a Mountain Bar and a Rocky Road to paint a scenic view with a cobble stone path? There's a Zero bar because there are no mistakes, only happy accidents.

You'll also get a random Pez just as a surprise, cause who doesn't like a nice surprise? Lastly there's a Hula Girl Air Freshener because Hula Girls simply make people... see your smiling and I didn't even say it yet.

You can have all this fun from Rocket Fizz Campbell for only $35. Message Rocket Fizz on FB or call the shop at 408-370-1510 to order!
