The Downtown Campbell temporary parklet program has been extended once again. The parklet program that's currently in place has been extended numerous times and the most recent extension was due to expire in April 2022. The program is now scheduled to continue until October 2022.

When the program ends, it's expected that there will be a permanent parklet program made available to restaurants and storefronts that wish to make use of it. The specifics of the permanent program are not yet known, but a proposal for a permanent program will be presented to the Campbell City Council in the coming months.

For obvious reasons, things haven't been the same in Downtown Campbell for quite some time. Events and celebrations of all kinds is at the center of what makes Downtown Campbell the beloved little hotspot that it is and we haven't been able to roll out our usual slate of events for two years now.

That won't change entirely in 2022, but we intend to do everything we can to return to being the Downtown Campbell that you know and love. We're planning on resuming all of our normal regular events as much as conditions will allow in 2022.

When we say "conditions," you're probably thinking of Covid public health related conditions, but that's not all of it. So much has changed in the past two years that some things that used to be routine end up being a lot more work than usual. Vendors, volunteers, and organizations that were previously relied upon may not be around anymore or may no longer have the resources needed for certain activities. Please understand that getting back to being the old Downtown Campbell is going to be a big challenge and will take some time.

Here's a tentative list of some events that will be coming back to Downtown Campbell.

  • First Fridays
  • Second Saturdays (music only)
  • Spring and Fall Wine Walks
  • Sidewalk Sales
  • Creepy Crawly Halloween
  • Small Business Saturday
  • Carol of Lights
  • Christmas in Campbell Entertainment

Additionally there will be the two big festival events put on by the Campbell Chamber of Commerce. Boogie Music Festival and Oktoberfest should happen on their normal dates.

There are also some more fun events that we're hoping to bring back or start fresh with, but are still pending. Please sign up for our mailing list or follow us on social media to get all of our latest updates.

Well, this is going to come as a big disappointment for a lot of people, but we're going to have to call off the Bunnies and Bonnets Parade for another year.

Was it canceled due to Covid? Nothing is free of being influenced by Covid these days, but the cancellation has many reasons. It wasn't due to any one single thing, person, or organization.

Events like the Bunnies and Bonnets parade take a lot more effort and resources than most people realize. Planning for it usually starts months before the event and a lot of people need to be ready from the organizers to the city, volunteer organizations, and the groups in the parade. It was just going to be too much for everyone involved to make it happen.

While there won't be a Bunnies and Bonnets Parade this year, we're hoping to resume as many of our regular annual events as possible moving forward in 2022.

Venture Gallery presents the work of William Eatmon, our featured artist for March. You are cordially invited to stop by the gallery and meet the artist on Saturday, March 5, 1pm-6pm.

This exhibit by William Eatmon explores his fascination with pointillism, a technique of painting in which many small, individual dots of paint are applied to a surface to form a larger image. As William and other artists have learned, acrylic paint has made it possible to apply very small, spherical colored dots to a surface which then picks up light in 180 degrees and adds depth to a painting.

A typical pointillist painting by William takes 4 weeks to complete and even one mistake can ruin an entire piece. A steady hand, good eyesight, patience, and the ability to visualize the end result are required.

Venture Gallery is now open daily, 10am-6pm. William Eatmon's artwork will be featured through March 2022. Venture Gallery is located at 260 Alvarado Street in Downtown Old Monterey. Visit our website to shop online for work by our local artists.

Lilify Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary

Posted on March 1st, 2022 by Lilify

A message from Hanni, co-owner of Lilify, located at 281 Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey:

We opened Lilify in 2012. As we prepared to open the shop, we were abustle with anticipation and adrenaline. In a particular moment of complexity our bookkeeper turned to me and said, “Hanni, we’re not playing shop. This is a shop.”

Now in our tenth year, I have learned that a business is a living, breathing, ever evolving entity. I have also learned that as a result of that evolution, an artisan shop has the ability to create community, transport, inspire, and offer an oasis.

On behalf of my family, the talented Lilify team, and the many independent artists, makers, and movers that make up Lilify, we thank you for your continued support and for allowing us to “play shop."

At Nacho Bizness, people often ask us about our cheese sauces. When we tell them it’s just cheese and milk with a blend of spices and peppers they always look awestruck.

That's right, we do NOT use canned cheese or cheese from a jar of any sort. We make our own cheese sauces daily and they take a ton of stirring to get just right. Mild cheddar cheese and Monterey jack cheese are at the heart of our Jalapeño Cheddar Sauce and Chipotle Jack Sauce. Don't do dairy? We also offer a vegan cheese sauce!

Come get some nachos with cheese sauce and see what the fuss is all about. Nacho Bizness is located at 470 Alvarado Street in Downtown Old Monterey.
