We’re losing a friend of 10 years at the end of this month. Spread Deli is closing its doors on January 30th, 2022. They’ll still sort of be around as part of Jtown Pizza in Japantown. Spread sandwiches will be available there.

Thanks for the memories, Jordan and crew! 😢

Sushi Fly Closing on January 29

Posted on January 25th, 2022 by Sushi Fly

We are sad to report that Sushi Fly, located at 413 Alvarado Street in Downtown Old Monterey, will be closing. In a message from Sushi Fly's owner, Mike, on January 25, he wrote:

About 10 days ago, I broke my hand. After consultation with my doctor, it became clear that I would not be making sushi for up to 10 weeks. This recent injury and the stress of managing through Covid for the past two years was the catalyst that caused me to reassess my relationship with the restaurant and my role as a small business owner. As I began to think about my future, it became clear to me that owning a restaurant like Sushi Fly was not going to provide the quality of life I seek and I needed to make a change.

It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing Sushi Fly will be closing our doors permanently on January 30.

Sushi Fly would not have been possible without our stellar employees and our loyal local customers! I cannot thank our employees enough for the success we have enjoyed over these past 4 years. Without you, we wouldn’t have made it this far. I truly appreciate all you have done. Lastly, I want to thank all the great customers. Many of you became regular customers and eventually became our friends. You helped us make it enjoyable and fun all these years.

Please come celebrate with us for these remaining days, our final day of service will be Saturday January 29, 2022.

Mike

Are you looking to come out of our latest round of being-at-home-life with a new skill? Have you always wanted to learn Spanish, but needed the right opportunity and some good instruction to help you get started?

Vive La Experiencia Spanish and ESL Institute in Downtown Campbell has a perfect opportunity for you. They're starting an eight week beginning Spanish course for adults on Thursday, February 3rd.

The program is ideal for any adult with some or no previous Spanish speaking experience. You'll be taught Spanish in a small online class of 4 to 8 adults for 90 fun and engaging minutes each week with a language instructor for eight weeks in a row. By the end of the 8-week course*, you should have a strong foundation in the basics of the Spanish language to continue your learning journey on your own or in further coursework.

Tuition for this 8 week long course is $210.

In addition to small group Spanish language classes for adults, Vive La Experiencia also has a range of other private, semi-private, and small group Spanish language experiences for kids, teens, and adults. Tutoring, ESL, and translation services are also available.

*-Due to the current Omicron wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, this group class will be held over Zoom conferences.

Montrio Reopens February 17

Posted on January 21st, 2022 by Montrio

Montrio (formerly Montrio Bistro) is happy to announce we're reopening the restaurant on Thursday, February 17 with an interior makeover and acclaimed chef Sascha Lyon at the helm.

During the course of his culinary career, Sascha Lyon has worked in Los Angeles, New York City, London, and Miami with such greats as Michel Richard, Alain Giraud, and Daniel Boulud.

Lyon says, "As a chef I’ve always been connected to the source, the fisher, the farmer, the markets - knowing them and their stories. I’m a firm believer in sustainability. When something is well-cared for its entire life - from seed to harvest, the husbandry of an animal - we have an obligation to maintain this level of integrity all the way through to the plate.”

It’s an exciting time in the evolution of Montrio, and we can’t wait to welcome new friends and old to our restaurant at 414 Calle Principal in Downtown Old Monterey.

East Village Cafe is happy to announce a new item on our Grab-N-Go Menu: Japchae! We invite you to stop by for this savory and slightly sweet dish featuring stir fried glass noodles (made from sweet potato starch) and assorted vegetables seasoned with sesame oil.
