The Campbell Press is Back

Posted on December 9th, 2020 by Campbell Express

The Campbell Express was an early casualty of the Covid-19 pandemic, but just over six months after the last edition of the Campbell Express was published, it has returned under new ownership under the original name for the local newspaper in Campbell. As we close 2020, we bid farewell to the Campbell Express and welcome back The Campbell Press.

Here the front page of the first edition of the newly reborn The Campbell Press.

This past weekend, the generosity of the Campbell community was incredible!

Castlemont Elementary and the #SCCFD Sunnyoaks Fire Station hosted Toy Drive Drop-Off events this weekend. Just LOOK at all of the toys, games, stuffed animals, and sporting goods they collected!!

And see that cute piggy bank? A child donated the bank with coins inside to make sure another child has a gift to open this holiday.

We have a few weeks left and a few more collection events. Stay tuned for more info. Or, you can always pick something from our Wish List (at CampbellToyProgram.com) and order on Amazon-it will be shipped right to us.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, hosted a toy drive, has a collection barrel in their place of business, Home Church for storing all of the items, and to the community of Campbell for your support!

New Monterey County Stay at Home Order Begins December 13 at 10pm

Posted on December 9th, 2020 by lighthouseave

Monterey County Health Director Edward Moreno has issued a new stay at home order for Monterey County that will go into effective on Sunday, December 13 at 10pm and extend until January 11 at 6am. (This order may be extended depending on ICU availability.)

As of Sunday at 10pm, restaurants and food service establishments will be restricted to pick-up and delivery service only (no outdoor dining); retail shops will operate at no more than 20% capacity; and barbershops, hair salons, and personal services will close (this includes nail and skin care studios and tattoo parlors). Outdoor exercise classes can continue to operate and essential businesses will remain open. Please note that the 10pm curfew also remains in effect.

Currently, Covid-!9 cases are surging in our area following the Thanksgiving holiday. Capacity at CHOMP and regional hospitals has been dangerously reduced here in Monterey and throughout California. Protecting hospital capacity saves lives from an entire range of preventable deaths, not just from Covid-19.

We encourage all residents to continue to support small, locally owned businesses during this difficult time. Please use our Dining Guide to see which restaurants and cafes are open for take-out and delivery; shop safely at home using our Gift Ideas Gallery and SIP Mall; and purchase gift cards to support your favorite Lighthouse District business owners.

We all know that the next few months will be extremely difficult as we face this surge in Covid-19 cases and we await the coronavirus vaccines. Please remain alert and keep doing the important job of wearing a mask over your nose and mouth, frequently washing your hands, and practicing social distancing. Staying healthy and beating back the coronavirus will save lives, protect our dedicated healthcare workers, and save jobs and businesses. Please do your part.

We at Alvarado Street Brewery were incredibly honored to receive our fourth medal in the past six years for our Mai Tai PA at the 2020 Great American Beer Festival. Usually we enter Mai Tai into the International-style Pale Ale category but changed it up this year into the American Strong Pale Ale category, where it was awarded a Bronze.

We believe part of the secret sauce to Mai Tai is its simplicity and nod towards balance and drinkability. It's always been solely Pilsner malt and Mosaic hops, with moderate bitterness and a clean, dry fermentation. It's not overly hopped either, but just enough for those lush, perfumey aromatics and flavors that have defined this beer over the years. We've also been lucky to forge a relationship with hop growers like Jackson Hop Farms to hand select our Mosaic lots each year, which is essential for consistency and keeping it in spec.

We're stoked to be able to brew Mai Tai PA year round and always have a fresh batch queued up. It's almost always available on burphopsnow.com for shipping, and you'll also find it at Alvarado Street Brewery and Grill at 426 Alvarado Street in Downtown Old Monterey, and throughout Monterey County and Northern California as we've increased its production over the past year.

Thank you so much for your support of Mai Tai over the years, friends! It is most definitely a big part of who we are.

Santa Claus is Crusing through Town

Posted on December 4th, 2020 by Downtown Campbell

We have it on good authority that Santa Claus himself will be in Campbell this Sunday, December 6th and next Sunday, the 13th from 10am to 1pm.

He heard about the Campbell Toy Program and wanted to help so, led by some very special escorts, he will be cruising through Campbell neighborhoods, spreading holiday spirit and collecting toys.

Go to CampbellToyProgram.com to download a map of his route.

Then come out, wave hello, and support the Toy Program by donating new, unwrapped toys, games, and sporting goods that Saint Nick will gift to local children who may otherwise not have a very merry holiday.

Need ideas on what to purchase? There is a Wish List on the Toy Program website. There is always a need for items for older children and teens.

Feel free to SHARE this post to your feed - Santa would love nothing more than to see lots of Campbell-ites lining the streets (safely, of course) to show their holiday spirit and support the Toy Program.

You know how people were joking that April felt like an entire year? I think that's how December's going to feel.

A day after Governor Newsom warned all regions of the state of California to be prepared to enter a new Shelter-in-Place order once ICU capacity in each area's hospitals dips below 15%, the largest counties in the Bay Area made a joint decision to pull the emergency brake a week early rather than a week late.

This will hurt our already struggling businesses, but it's the right thing to do. Santa Clara County is already dangerously close to maxing out ICU capacity while hospitalizations are still ramping up and the expected surge from Thanksgiving gatherings hasn't even begun. Protecting ICU capacity saves lives from an entire range of preventable deaths, not just from Covid-19.

The new December Shelter-in-Place order will go into effect on Monday, December 7th (technically it starts at 10PM on Sunday).

Here's a summary of what to expect once the order takes effect.

  • No outdoor dining. Takeout and delivery is OK.

  • Barbershops, salons, and personal services (i.e. skin care) must close.

  • Retail will be allowed to operate at 20% of capacity.

  • Outdoor gyms can continue to operate.

  • The Farmers' Market is not affected.

How to Support Us: Shop safely at home by using our Gift Ideas Gallery and use our Shelter-in-Place Dining Guide to see what restaurants are open for takeout and delivery.

Those of you who are keen of eye may notice that retail capacity actually went up from 10% to 20%. Santa Clara County had previously imposed a stricter standard than the state was requiring, but decided to go with the State's guidelines. From what we know of our county's public health department, it's surprising, but not as random as it appears. With no outdoor dining, there's a reduced chance of crowding (and you don't need to take your mask off to shop). For many of our shops, a 10% increase in capacity only means an extra 1 or 2 people are allowed into the shop at the same time.

Retail will still be limited to 10% this weekend though, but you'll have an opportunity to get a last chance outdoor meal, haircut, facial, color, or massage. The earliest the Shelter-in-Place can be lifted will be January 4th, 2021.

The only way that's going to happen is if we all do as epidemiologists have been telling us to do all along. Avoid gatherings with people outside...Read More
