The City of Monterey has announced the temporary closure of all beaches in Monterey, September 4-7, 2020. Only water activities and ocean access are permitted. Beach use is not permitted. Violators subject to fines.

Water activities are allowed. This means that activities such as swimming, surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, paddle boarding, and kayaking are permitted. The beach may only be used to provide access to the ocean.

Beach use is not allowed. This prohibits groups, walking, jogging, sunbathing, picnicking, and sitting at all beaches in Monterey.

The current threat from the wildfires burning in Monterey County is unprecedented and the need of Monterey County residents who have been evacuated is huge. Now through September 5, 2020, Monterey Firefighters are collecting donations of cash and gift cards to distribute quickly, and directly, to families impacted by the fires.

Monterey Firefighters have set up a Go Fund Me page for financial donations. They are also accepting donations of gift cards from stores such as Target, Walmart, Safeway, or Lucky's, at all of the fire stations in the City of Monterey . Downtown Old Monterey's Fire Station No. 11 is located at 600 Pacific Street.

Although it's unbelievable that we are now facing these fires at the same time our families are being impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, it's the difficult reality for all of us. We will survive this, but if it's possible to lend some help to our neighbors at the same time, we know it will be greatly appreciated.
