Hair Salons & Barbershops Can Open for Indoor Service on August 31

Great news for all who want a haircut! On Friday afternoon, it was announced by the California Department of Public Health that hair salons and barbershops in Monterey County are permitted to reopen for indoor services on Monday, August 31.

You're invited to call to your favorite hair professional and make an appointment, but please be patient - given the short notice, it may take our local artisans a few days to get up and running again.

City of Monterey Beaches Closed Labor Day Weekend, September 4-7

The City of Monterey has announced the temporary closure of all beaches in Monterey, September 4-7, 2020. Only water activities and ocean access are permitted. Beach use is not permitted. Violators subject to fines.

Water activities are allowed. This means that activities such as swimming, surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, paddle boarding, and kayaking are permitted. The beach may only be used to provide access to the ocean.

Beach use is not allowed. This prohibits groups, walking, jogging, sunbathing, picnicking, and sitting at all beaches in Monterey.

McAbee Beach and San Carlos Beach: Ocean Access Only, 8/22-9/22

The City of Monterey has announced the temporary and limited closure of McAbee Beach and San Carlos Beach, August 22 - September 22, to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Only water activities and ocean access are permitted. Beach use is not permitted. Violators will be subject to fines.

Now through September 5, Monterey Firefighters are collecting donations of cash and gift cards to distribute quickly, and directly, to families impacted by the fires.

Monterey Firefighters have set up a Go Fund Me page for financial donations. They are also accepting donations of gift cards from stores such as Target, Walmart, Safeway, or Lucky's, at all of the fire stations in the City of Monterey . New Monterey's Fire Station No. 12 is located at 582 Hawthorne Street.
