Pilates Monterey Has Reopened

Posted on June 15th, 2020 by Pilates Monterey

Pilates Monterey has reopened our studio! This will be a slow reopening so we can ensure proper implementation of the guidelines set forth by the state health department and the CDC. For the time being, we will only be accommodating private and duet appointments.

In order to ensure safe social distancing, there will only be two instructors with their clients in the studio at a time, one group at the front of the studio and one at the back. We hope to be able to add classes, both Pilates Monterey circuit classes and Peninsula Pilates Project classes, into the schedule in July.

Our main goal has always been to create a safe space for people to heal, whether that be physically, emotionally, or mentally. Our doors are open to everyBODY. View our new protocols here.

Pilates Monterey is located at 533 Hartnell Avenue in Downtown Old Monterey. Please contact us to schedule your appointment, 831-601-2343.

In honor of Father's Day, Esteban Restaurant's Chef Gus will be serving paella all weekend, June 19-21, 4pm-8:30pm. This Paella Negra Mixta from Valencia, Spain, features duck, sausage, mussels, and prawns. Paella will only be offered for dine-in service at our restaurant, but the rest of our menu is available for take-out, curbside pick-up, and delivery.

Reservations are recommended for dine-in service - please phone 831-375-0176. We offer indoor and outdoor seating. Esteban Restaurant is located at 700 Munras Avenue at Casa Munras Garden Hotel & Spa.

Old Capitol Books is collaborating with Close to Home Collective, which is working to bring literature and arts into your living room to help lower the number of people seeking entertainment out of their homes during the pandemic. (Seriously folks, stay inside.)

Together, we’re offering open mics, poetry slams, writing workshops, and featured events – many of which are raising money for the ongoing struggle against police violence. To check out a complete listing of upcoming events, please visit Close to Home's Facebook or Instgram pages.

The Union Yoga Book Club is launching on Saturday, June 27 at 12pm on Zoom with a whopper: The Henna Artist, by our fellow Union yogi and local author, Alka Joshi. We were planning a book launch at Union at the end of March that would have included Indian musicians, dancers, and henna artists but alas, Covid-19 happened. This obviously was not an omen because since the launch, the book is getting rave reviews! Just last week it made its appearance on the New York Times bestseller list and is Reese Witherspoon's May 2020 book of the month.

Reese is amazing but we want to gather up the yogis for this one. Purchase the book online here (when you buy from that page, you're supporting Union Yoga and Alka Joshi) and dive in to this rich tale. We will gather together via Zoom. Please sign up via Mindbody here to receive email updates and the meeting Zoom link.

Shelter in Place Update for week of June 14th

Posted on June 14th, 2020 by sheldon

We hope everyone is healthy and sane and if you're not, hopefully you're at least healthy OR sane.

Earlier this month, Santa Clara County began permitting restaurant and retail services to resume on a limited basis. Most of our shops and restaurants have taken advantage of the loosened restrictions, but some of them are continuing to operate on a more restricted basis for a variety of reasons.

Al Fresco Dining is In

The big news is that restaurants are allowed to offer dining service outdoors and with proper spacing between tables to allow for social distancing between all dinner parties. The City of Campbell is allowing restaurants to take up open spaces near them to set up additional tables to allow them to serve additional customers.

Even with the expanded outdoor seating, space is limited. You may be asked to observe a time limit for your table.

Not all of our restaurants have opened for dine-in service. Some remain pick-up, curbside, and delivery only. If you're not comfortable with dining out, you can still get your food for take-out and curbside.

Retail Shops Open

Most of our retailers have reopened, but many of them are only going with limited hours. Please be aware that there may be restrictions on what you will be permitted to do in the stores. You must have a face covering at all times when going to a business.

Dressing rooms at boutiques may be closed for safety reasons*. Please contact the boutique in advance to ask about their fitting room policy if you wish to try on items. Private shopping appointments are available at many shops if you ask about them and some even encourage it. There is a maximum number of people allowed into any store (employees included).

Even though many of our retailers are open, they're continuing to offer curbside delivery and online shopping too. Retailers are also allowed to expand out into normally restricted open spaces to allow them to offer merchandise from the sidewalk.

Uncertain Hours

We are all adjusting to the new normal. Nobody's done it quite like this before and so be aware that everyone's hours are subject to change without notice. We're trying to keep accurate hours for shops in our business directory and we will be publishing a page to give you easy reference to everyone's hours. For now, please contact them directly or find them in our business directory to confirm availability.

No Salons Yet

As of today, Salons have not been given permission to re-open yet.

OTHER MUSIC
Other Music was an influential and uncompromising New York City record store that was vital to the city’s early 2000s indie music scene. But when the store is forced to close its doors due to rent increases, the homogenization of urban culture, and the shift from CDs to downloadable and streaming music, a cultural landmark is lost. Through vibrant storytelling, this documentary captures the record store’s vital role in the musical and cultural life of the city, and highlights the artists whose careers it helped launch.
