Sponsorship Packages for the Carol of Lights

Posted on November 11th, 2015 by sheldon

The annual “Carol of Lights” festival will be held on Saturday December 5, 2015 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, the Downtown Campbell Business Association invites you to the streets of Historic Downtown Campbell for this free event. This non- commercial, family oriented event brings people in the Campbell community together for an evening of Holiday fun. There are a variety of attractions for the children, including; real snow, bounce houses, a petting zoo, pony rides, arts and crafts, face painting, etc.

After the passing of our beloved Sally Howe, a group of community members and volunteers have taken on this event in her honor. In the past, Sally’s fundraising efforts have been through recycling, community dinners, personal donations, bunco nights, and so on. Since this event has become more popular, the committee is seeking more donations from individuals, local businesses and corporate level sponsors. We need your help in order to carry on this festive downtown tradition!

The sponsorship amounts and benefits are as follows:

  • $1,000 Sponsorship: Full banner with business logo and information in a populated area during the festival. Prominent recognition on website, social media sites, event poster and brochure.
  • $500 Sponsorship: Business logo on smaller banner with business logo in a populated area during the festival. Recognition on website, social media sites, event poster and brochure.
  • $100 Sponsorship: Business listed on poster and printed materials.

Please make check payable to “Campbell Parks and Recreation Foundation”. This foundation is a 501(c)(3) corporation and any donation made is fully tax-deductible.

Sincerely,
The Carol of Lights Event Committee

Alvarado Street Brewery and Grill has just launched a brand new, seasonal fall menu highlighting Chef Jeremiah Tydeman’s take on simple, American classics executed with international influence. The new menu comes in a sleek new format, designed by local studio The Wecker Group.

“We wanted to reinvent the feel of our menus to evoke a fun, more approachable aesthetic that fits to our concept better,” says head brewer and co-owner, JC Hill. “Chef Jeremiah has completely transformed the menu, adding a new dynamic that called for an entirely fresh look.” Hill was able to squeeze in a “Beer & Food 101” section in the new menu as a pairing guide to educate the brewery’s patrons.

Chef Tydeman was brought onto the Alvarado Street team in June of this past summer and has slowly been introducing some of his New American dishes with a worldly twist, like homemade chicken pot pie, a Vietnamese-style lamb burger, curry pumpkin soup, a Hawaiian poke-style tuna tartare, and the ultra-decadent truffle crawfish mac ‘n cheese. Tydeman was also intent on including a not-so-traditional clam chowder by creating a Manhattan-style tomato based chowder stocked with PEI mussels and chunks of Baker’s bacon.

“It’s been a blast creating dishes around certain beer styles, there are so many different combinations of flavors and textures that beer and food can both play off each other,” says Tydeman. He’s currently working on dishes for a five course beer and sparkling wine collaboration dinner between Alvarado Street and Caracciolli Cellars on New Year’s Eve, to be held at the brewery.

MIIS Winter Commencement Ceremony 2015

Posted on November 10th, 2015 by omba

Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey presents the Winter Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Monterey Marriott in the San Carlos Ballroom. Congratulations, graduates!

Seating for the ceremony begins at 12pm. The ceremony begins at 1pm. The hors d'ouevres and champagne reception will be held at 2pm at Samson Student Center.

The 2015 Quickbooks Connect Conference was held on November 2-4th in Downtown San Jose this year. The conference brings together small business owners, entrepreneurs, accounting professionals, and developers for QuickBooks expert talks, training, hands-on workshops, networking, and more.

Downtown Campbell was well represented at the conference. Andrea Parks and Randy Musterer, the owners of Frost Cupcake Factory and Sushi [confidential] were on the scene and helped lead a breakout session on managing employees in a small business. Even more cool was that Oprah Winfrey was there giving the keynote address and Sushi Randy got a special shout out by Oprah and got to meet with Oprah one on one after the keynote!

2015 Trick-or-Treat Photos Now Online

Posted on November 4th, 2015 by lighthouseave

Photos are now online of the Seventh Annual Children's Trick-or-Treat on Lighthouse, October 31, 2015. We hope you enjoy them!

If you see yourself or your child in one of the photos and you'd like a high resolution copy of it e-mailed to you, please contact us at info@lighthousedistrict.net.

The New Monterey Business Association would like to thank our small but dedicated group of volunteers from DLI, as well as the many enthusiastic businesses and families who participated and made it our most well-attended trick-or-treat ever!

November brings wool carpet sales throughout the store at Carpets and Floors, Inc. It's worth it to check out the fabulous wools available now for especially good prices. Some of the very best wool comes from New Zealand sheep and goes into making the most wonderful rugs and carpets. There are lots of manufacturers and styles to choose from at our store, and the sale will continue through the end of November 2015. We invite you to visit us at 471 Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey and take a look!

The show must go on! On the afternoon of October 18, Hot Roux played Bon Ton L'Roy's Lightouse Smokehouse in Monterey. The only problem was that the whole town was without power. No electricity! KPIG radio was on site doing a promotion and they happened to have a "hand held" megaphone. The band borrowed the megaphone, strapped it to a mic stand, and proceeded to play totally unplugged. That's old school blues! A good time was had by all.

(Thanks to Hot Roux's Facebook page for this great story! Click the link to watch the video.)

Well, this isn't really Downtown Campbell news, but it's about one of our guys, Randy Musterer, aka Sushi Randy of Sushi Sushi [Confidential]. Thanks to the great success of the Campbell location, there'll be a second location opening up in Downtown San Jose. Silicon Valley Business Journal wrote a wonderful article summarizing Randy's journey from doing the biotech life of a cancer researcher through his apprenticeship under master sushi chefs and eventually to launching one of the most talked about sushi restaurants in the South Bay. It's well worth the read. Congratulations Sushi Randy!

Ice Skating by the Bay on Hiatus in 2015

Posted on October 25th, 2015 by omba

Due to the construction on and around Portola Plaza, Ice Skating by the Bay (the outdoor ice skating rink) will be going on hiatus for the 2015 Holiday Season. We are very disappointed and will miss all the great people who help support and make the ice rink so much fun every year. Ice Skating by the Bay hopes everyone has a great holiday, and rest assured they'll be back for the 2016 Ice Skating by the Bay season!
