Ladies, bangs (or "fringe" as they’re also called) can accentuate some of the best features of your face, but only if they’re cut and styled correctly. Brian Bode, owner of the Lighthouse District's own Oya Salon, has a great video for women seeking to change up their look. In it, he addresses which type of bangs look best for women with square, round, oval, and heart-shaped faces. Check out the 3-minute video here, and learn which bangs are best for your face shape!

Oya Salon, located at 201 Lighthouse Avenue, is open 6 days a week, Monday-Saturday. Want to come down and try out a new look? Please phone the salon for an appointment, 831-656-0570.

Koly McBride, Artistic Director and Creator of the Lighthouse District's own Paper Wing Theatre Company, has been chosen by The Playwrights' Center of San Francisco as a guest director for their exciting and whimsical fundraising event, 24 Hour Fest, September 27 & 28, 2013, at The Alcove Theatre.

What is the 24 Hour Fest? The night before the performance, selected directors, actors, and playwrights are randomly paired. A theme for the festival is then chosen randomly and the playwright, cast, and director meet each other before the playwright heads off into the night to write a new, original one-act script by 6am. Directors and actors arrive the next morning at 9am for a crazy day of rehearsal followed by a performance off-book in front of a live audience at 8pm, September 28!

Hello Sundown Cinema Fans!

We've got some bad news, but we also have some hopeful news.

Sundown Cinema is canceled for the summer of 2013. That's the bad news. The good news is that we're working on a plan to move Sundown Cinema over to the Orchard City Green, which is the grassy courtyard next to the Campbell Library. It'd be a much nicer place for the movie series and we're talking to the City of Campbell about letting us move there next summer.

What happened was that the empty lot that we've been using is no longer available to us. The owner of the property came to the conclusion that it was hurting his best interests to allow the movie series to continue. He has a dispute with the city over the fate of that lot. We understand his position and we're grateful that we were able to use that space for so long. It served us well. In the early years, there were nights where the attendance was around 40 people if you counted generously. In recent years, we've had nights where we've lost count at 400. We've definitely grown up and maybe it was time for a move up anyway.

While we're disappointed about this year, we're excited about the possibilities that a bigger, better, and more comfortable space will bring to Sundown Cinema. As said above, we're talking to the city right now and expect to have something definite to announce soon. We're very optimistic that we'll be able to work things out with the City and come back with our 10th Anniversary Season of Sundown Cinema one year delayed.

Stay tuned. We'll push out announcements to the Sundown Cinema mailing list and to DowntownCampbell.com and the Downtown Campbell Facebook and Twitter feeds as things happen. If you want to be sure you have the latest news, please signup for the Sundown Cinema mailing list on this page:

Waste to Waves will take the foam and recycle it into surfblanks, the inner core of surfboards!

What kind of foam can NOT be recycled by Waste to Waves? EPS foam containers from food service; packing "peanuts"; foam that is flexible, soft, or rubbery; and old surfboards.

For more information, please check out the Waste to Waves Program's Frequently Asked Questions page.

Monterey Bay Aquarium invites children ages 8-13 to come dive with us! In this unique 90-minute Underwater Explorer Program, kids are introduced to the underwater world through surface scuba diving. No experience is necessary, only a sense of adventure!

Kids are safely guided by Aquarium leadership-level dive staff in our Great Tide Pool, where they'll meet amazing animals while getting a fish's view of the wonders of the bay. The small group size (one staff member for every three students and no more than 12 participants per program) ensures a safe and educational experience for everyone. The program includes a dive briefing, an introduction to basic scuba diving practices, a tour of the Great Tide Pool and an interpretation of the animals they'll encounter.

Cost is $75 per child for Aquarium members, $95 plus Aquarium admission for non-members. All equipment is provided, including a dry suit, regulator, air tank, and mask. No bathing suit or towel is required. Please click here for more information and to make a reservation.

Please note that adult chaperones must purchase tickets to enter the Aquarium and be present during their child's participation in the program. Adults may not enter the water.
