This quarter's edition of 831 Magazine features a nice photo of the Lighthouse District at night submitted by Sheldon Chang, the developer of LighthouseDistrict.net. You'll notice that the contents page (page 8) is a shot of Lighthouse Avenue taken from the north corner of Lighthouse and Drake, looking south. The slight distortion is created by the use of a fisheye lens on the camera.

Here's a link to the online edition of 831 Magazine and the page in question!

There will be a New Monterey Business Association General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, January 30, at 9am at Scholze Park Community Center (Dickman & Lighthouse).

Following the problems with roadwork this fall which greatly impacted businesses, MST has offered to collaborate with the NMBA to advertise the Lighthouse District. At this meeting, we'll talk about the promotional campaign - create a theme and start planning the advertising campaign. We hope to form a Promotional Committee at the meeting to work further with MST on the project.

Please join with fellow business owners, city representatives, and MST at the meeting. Your input is vital! For more information, please phone Rick Johnson at 831-655-8070.

The New Monterey Business Association would like to remind the Lighthouse District's businesses and customers that on January 1, 2013, in accordance with the plastic and paper bag ordinance passed by Monterey City Council, the cost of paper bags in all retail facilities increased from 10 cents per bag to 25 cents per bag. Plastic bags are still banned for retail use. Please be aware that this ordinance affects retail shops but not restaurants (and all that great take-out food).

Everyone is encouraged to bring your own reusable bags to retail shops. Let's all work together to reduce, reuse, and recycle! For more information on the ordinance, please click here. You can also view the City's 3-minute video overview of the ordinance.

Christmas in Campbell

Posted on December 10th, 2012 by Downtown Campbell

Christmas is coming, and the good merchants of Downtown Campbell are bringing holiday cheer to the community every Friday (6pm-9pm) and Saturday (12pm-3pm), December 7 - 22. Join us for great shopping, special sales, and holiday entertainment!

Why get stuck at the mall? Bring your family to Downtown Campbell, support local merchants by doing some holiday shopping, savor a delicious meal, and enjoy the relaxed, charming, small-town atmosphere.

Are you looking as pale as the newly-driven snow? Come on down to Lighthouse District's Sahara Sun Tanning! In the month of December, we have several specials from which to choose:

*Purchase 2 Mystic Tanning Sessions and get 1 free

*Purchase 2 Njoy or Ultra Bronze Sessions and get 1 free

*Purchase 2 months of Regular Tanning Sessions for only $69.95

For more information and to make an appointment, please phone Sahara Sun Tanning at 831-375-9584.

On Friday, December 7, apx. 11am-1pm, the signal light at Reeside and Lighthouse will be shut down while new equipment is installed. People will be there helping with traffic control, but there will be traffic delays along Lighthouse and along Reeside during that time.

Crews poured concrete on Thursday, December 6 at Reeside and will continue work on December 7 & 8. Curing of the concrete takes approximately 7 days, so expect there to be traffic delays there and along Lighthouse next week.

Repaving and re-stripping of Lighthouse is expected to be done by December 19. Assuming no additional weather or other delays, the hope is that the Lighthouse work will be completed and back to normal by December 21.

Please continue to direct any questions or calls to Candy Ingram at 831-373-3609.

Shop Lilify This Holiday Season!

Posted on December 4th, 2012 by Lighthouse District

Looking for a great holiday gift? Newly opened Lilify, featuring floral, vintage, and artisan goods, is an eclectic boutique with an aesthetic that is just a little bit raw and composition that entails a studied whimsy. Our style is a distinctive medley of clean lines and organic elegance inspired by vintage delicacy and the understated flair of folk culture.

Lilify has an emphasis on artwork and handmade craft - we believe our belongings should tell a story. At present, we proudly have the work of local artists Alissa Bell/Letterpress Stationer, Emily Brown/Cut Paper Designer, Jen Anderson/Printmaker, Rachel Jones/Jewelry Designer and fine artists Chloe Wilson, Breeann Kirby and Keith Damron.

Weekends until Christmas, we'll be serving Acme Coffee and hot spiced cider. We'll even roast some rosemary almonds as they were such a hit for our grand opening!

For last minute gifts and stocking stuffers, we'll be open on Monday, December 24, 10am-4pm. We will then be closed on December 25 and 26.
