Monterey Conference Center has installed new public art for all of us to enjoy in Jeffers Plaza, an outdoor space connecting the Conference Center with Portola Hotel and Spa. The plaza is named after Robinson Jeffers (1887-1962), an influential local poet and icon of the environmental movement. Much of Jeffers' poetry was written in narrative and epic form, and was widely popular in the 1920s and 30s.

The bronze sculptures of Jeffers were created by local artists Will Pettee and Carol Matranga Courtney. We encourage you to go in person and check it out the next time you're in Downtown Old Monterey. Monterey Conference Center is located at 1 Portola Plaza.

Online Happy Hour Discussion with Artist Marc Trujillo, March 5

Posted on March 1st, 2021 by montereyart

C’mon, get happy! Join Monterey Museum of Art and artist Marc Trujillo for our online Happy Hour, Friday, March 5, 5pm-6pm. Get to know Marc, sit in on a conversation between the artist and independent curator Helaine Glick, and take a behind the scenes look at his studio and process. Fee is $5 for museum members, $10 for all others. Please register in advance online.

Marc Trujillo earned his MFA from Yale University and is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. His work is held in both private and public collections throughout the United States.

In his brilliant and eye opening series Fast (now in virtual exhibit at Monterey Museum of Art), Marc Trujillo looks at one of America’s most ubiquitous urban environments, the take-out franchise and its drive up windows. A Los Angeles resident, he resides in the heart of fast food culture, where grabbing a quick burger or taco to go is a universal habit. Both intrigued and a little repelled, Trujillo decided to move in for a closer look. With a keen eye, he brings the allure and meticulous observation of a 17th century Dutch still life and a touch of ambivalent commentary to his paintings of this ordinarily mundane experience.

Here at Resold Threads Consignments we are currently putting all of our winter coats on clearance. We have a few designer names like Via Spiga, Burberry, Levi's, and more. Come take a look and see if there's something that catches your eye. We also have vintage and high-end designer names.

Tapas are served 4pm-6pm daily and include Saffron Arancini, Lake Family Farm Deviled Duck Eggs, and empanadas.

The beverage menu is also newly updated and features wines from Spain and Monterey County, local and imported beer, imaginative cocktails, and a large selection of sherries and house-made sangrias.

Esteban Restaurant, located at 700 Munras Avenue in Monterey, is open daily for patio dining, take-out orders with curbside pick-up, and home delivery, 4pm-8pm. To make a reservation or place your order, please call 831-375-0176.

Restaurant Pick-up Is the Way to Go

Posted on February 25th, 2021 by lighthouseave

Trying to decide between pick-up or delivery from your favorite restaurant? If you want to support small, locally-owned businesses, pick-up is the way to go.

Most small eateries in New Monterey's Lighthouse District are operated by the owner and (perhaps) a handful of employees. The margins are small. Delivery charges can be expensive for restaurants, so if you're able, please consider picking up your order yourself.

Don't want to wait onsite? Place your order in advance over the phone or online. Don't want to go indoors? Some restaurants offer curbside pick-up on request - they're listed in our online Dining Guide. You can enjoy great take-out food and stay safe from coronavirus!
