The long shuttered Cooper-Molera Adobe complex, located on 2.5 acres in the heart of Old Monterey, is now beginning a dramatic revitalization. Ship captain and trader John Rogers Cooper immigrated to Monterey and married into a prominent Mexican family and they expanded the property over three generations. The adobe-walled complex, dating back to 1827, includes historic adobe structures, barns, and a garden. For many years the property has had limited access to the public and growing, unfunded restoration needs.

Foothill Partners, the developers behind the Trader Joe's shopping center next door, is partnering with the owners of the property, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, for a $6.5 million restoration. This shared-use project will combine museum space and historic interpretation with compatible commercial uses that are appropriate to the historic setting.

This public-private partnership will establish a creative funding model which will preserve the historic site and maintain museum operations in the Cooper and Diaz adobes. The iconic barns are going through a seismic retrofit and will be reopened as an event center. The Spear Warehouse will hold a restaurant with outdoor seating in its courtyard. A bakery is coming to the store on the corner of Munras and Polk streets. And eventually the long-shuttered gates will be open and the public can enjoy the beautiful "learning gardens." For updates on the project, visit coopermolera.org.

Watch UFC Fights this Fall at Carbone's

Posted on November 9th, 2017 by Carbone's

Carbone's is happy to be showing the next couple of UFC fights for free! As usual, in Carbone's style, we will have a drink minimum, but we've got to pay those pay-per-view fees somehow. We were the first to show boxing and UFC fights, back when they were popular, and pinball before there was a Monterey League. So this is our way of saying thank you for your support all these years. But don't wait around, because this free stuff won't continue on for long. Check at the bar for details, 214 Lighthouse Avenue in New Monterey.

On The Beach is happy to announce that our Snow Tech Shop opened on November 10, 2017! Come in and let us get your snowboard and skis ready for the season. We'll also be renting skis, snowboards, and boots - we've just added Burton snowboards and K2 skis to the rental shop. If you have questions about our rental rates and policies, please stop by the store at 693 Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey or phone us at 831-646-9283.

Fashion Trade, located at 554 Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey, is back! Yes, we closed for the month of October, but we're open once again and bringing you more great women's fashion.

Our new fall/winter hours are Wednesday - Saturday, 10am-5pm. Please note: in the fall and winter of 2017-18, we will not be consigning or buying items for cash. We will, however, buy items for store credit from 10am-4pm, no appointment needed.

At Union Yoga, we like to encourage our students to try classes with different teachers. In November, if you take a class with a teacher with whom you haven't yet taken a class, you'll be entered into a raffle to win a 75 minute massage with Rob Wilks in our massage room!

If you haven't yet met Rob or taken his Friday, 6:15pm yin yoga class, you should. He is certified as both an Esalen and deep tissue massage therapist. Rob is also a teacher of both methods. He knows anatomy and body work like few people on the planet and is highly regarded and sought after in this field. Let us know when you check in for class so you can get your raffle ticket.

SmileLabs Monterey is having a Summer Special, now through November 30, 2017. We're now offering a single session for $69, two sessions for $119, three sessions for $159, or five sessions for $199.

SmileLabs Monterey begins your appointment with a consultation to determine your current shade and how many sessions you’ll need to reach your target shade. Then you apply a hydrogen peroxide gel to your teeth and our cold blue light whitening accelerator is placed directly in front of your exposed teeth by one of our professionally-trained technicians for 15 minutes per treatment.

We're located in Old Monterey at 188 Webster Street. Give us a call at 831-717-4676 or book an appointment online.

Have you placed your baked goods orders for Thanksgiving? Paris Bakery wants to remind you that we carry a wide array of delicious breads and desserts, perfect for your holiday feast! We'll be closed on Thanksgiving Day, so be sure to place your order in advance and check with us then about the best time to pick it up. We're located at 271 Bonifacio Plaza in Old Monterey.

Are you looking for a good place to donate your Halloween costumes and dress up clothes? Consider giving them to MY Museum, the Monterey County Youth Museum! We accept all gently used and new costumes for our theater exhibit. Just bring them in during our regular business hours: Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10am-5pm, and Sundays, 12pm-5pm.

(We'd like to extend a special thanks to Cyrpess Cleaners in Pacific Grove for keeping our costumes fresh and clean!)

CarmelBarre in Monterey is pleased to announce our newest classes for Fall 2017. Rosie will be teaching a Power Yoga class on Tuesdays at 10:30am and Brian will be teaching HIIT the Barre on Mondays and Fridays at 10:30am. We're located at 465 Pacific Street in Old Monterey.

HIIT the Barre is a 45 minute high-intensity class combining classic barre moves, cardio, and high-intensity training exercises to elevate the heart rate, increase muscle tone, and definition and burn stubborn belly fat.

Sonoma Pride, an over-sized IPA with loads of Simcoe and Eureka hops, is available in cans and on draft beginning the weekend of November 4 at Fieldwork Brewing Co. in Monterey at 560 Munras Avenue. 100% of all proceeds go to North Bay Fire Relief. Come enjoy some and support our friends in the North Bay! There are no limits, we just want to raise money.

The deadly wildfires that wreaked havoc in Sonoma and Napa counties this October was nauseatingly heartbreaking to witness. So when Fieldwork’s friends at Russian River Brewing reached out and asked if we'd like to brew a charity beer for fire victims we knew there was only one acceptable answer; "how about a double batch." We will be canning up as much of this beer as possible and putting it on tap across our tasting rooms to raise as much money for our friends in the North Bay as possible. If you cannot get into one of our tasting rooms to grab cans or a pour of draft, please consider going to www.sonomapride.com and donate to help those in need.

The annual 2017 “Carol of Lights” festival will be held on Saturday December 2nd from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The Downtown Campbell Business Association invites you to the streets of Historic Downtown Campbell for this free event. This non- commercial, family oriented event brings people in the Campbell community together for an evening of Holiday fun. There are a variety of attractions for the children, including; real snow, bounce houses, a petting zoo, pony rides, arts and crafts, face painting, a photo booth, etc.

After the passing of our beloved Sally Howe, a group of community members and volunteers have taken on this event in her honor. In the past, Sally’s fundraising efforts have been through recycling, community dinners, personal donations, bunco nights, and so on. Since this event has become more popular, the committee is seeking more donations from individuals, local businesses and corporate level sponsors. We need your help in order to carry on this festive downtown tradition!

The sponsorship amounts and benefits are as follows:

$1,000 Sponsorship

Full banner with business logo and information in a populated
area during the festival. Prominent recognition on website, social media sites, event poster and brochure.

$500 Sponsorship

Business logo on smaller banner in a populated area during the festival. Recognition on website, social media sites, event poster and brochure.

$100 Sponsorship

Business listed on poster and printed materials.

Please make check payable to “Campbell Parks and Recreation Foundation”. This foundation is a 501(c)(3) corporation and any donation made is fully tax-deductible.

Individual Donations under $100

Individuals can also donate to the Carol of Lights online through the donations page on the Carol of Lights website. Chip in $5, $10, $20, or whatever you can afford to help us cover the costs and keep this cherished tradition going.

Sincerely,

The Carol of Lights Event Committee
