On Friday, May 8, 5pm-9pm, The Museum of Monterey will host an opening reception for its Spring Fling exhibition. Popular local percussionist John Tallon and his combo will perform with well-known guitar player Lightning Red of Austin, Texas.

Throughout the weekend, May 8-10, the Museum of Monterey will host an array of exciting events inviting children and adults to celebrate the season of renewal. Spring Fling will offer music, art, video, and stimulating seminars in a three-day festival that highlights regional artists and musicians! This fundraiser celebrates the Museum of Monterey, a unique historical, cultural, and arts institution that serves our community. Open Friday and Saturday, 11am-5pm and Sunday, 12pm-5pm.

58 Years of Monterey Jazz Festival
MOM's Main Gallery hosts an exhibition of 58 years of mementoes from the Monterey Jazz Festival's collection as well as large photographs by John C. Maginnis. Maginnis, who worked as a staff photographer for the Daily Republic, captured some of Rock and Roll's legendary acts, from the Rolling Stones to Led Zeppelin. His photos of Jim Belushi and James Brown are iconic.

Artwork by Jose Ortiz and Hijos del Sol
In front of the Museum at Custom House Plaza, renowned muralist Jose Ortiz will lead a team of children and adult artists. Hijos del Sol will create "A Toda Madre - All Mothers," a series of paintings by artists and children that honor the natural mother that comes as a woman and the one that, due to life's situations, comes in a different shape or form. These works will be displayed at the Museum.

Paintings by Lucas Blok
The Museum's Atrium will feature an exhibition of paintings by Lucas Blok. Color is Blok's primary mode of expression, and with it, he orchestrates rhythm, energy, mood and atmosphere, not unlike a musician does with sound. Blok is an alchemist who transmutes paint into a force to awaken our senses. On Saturday, May 9 at 3pm, Lucas Blok will discuss his art.

Video work by M.D. Baer
Multi-media artist M.D. Baer will premiere a new work in progress, "A Day In May" (The Goat Man Cometh). This seven-screen video poem is based on Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring. On Saturday, May 9 at 2pm, Baer will screen this 30-minute work followed by a discussion.
