MIIS is pleased to host Cameron McKinney and Kizuna Dance on Thursday, March 8, 7pm-8:30pm in Irvine Auditorium in the McCone Building. This evening, McKinney will present excerpts from new works by Kizuna Dance and discuss the process of intercultural communication through the arts.

Described as “mesmerizing” [The Stewardship Report] and “brilliant” [Huffington Post], Cameron McKinney is a New York City-based choreographer, dancer, educator, and author. He founded Kizuna Dance in 2014 with the mission of creating works that celebrate the Japanese language and culture. Since then, he has received many awards and honors.

Kizuna Dance is a New York City-based contemporary dance company whose mission is to depict aspects of Japanese history and culture through the use of a unique blend of hip-hop, house, and contemporary movements. Kizuna Dance offers the dance community a new and unique approach to cross-cultural productions, celebrating the Japanese culture by bringing it to life on stage through the median of hip-hop vocabulary. Kizuna Dance works blend elements of breaking, house and lofting, and waving with modern sensibilities.
