Union Yoga: Ride the Peacock Workshops
This event has already passed
In this workshop duo taught by Nichol Chase at Union Yoga on Sunday, June 3, we'll explore two powerful poses with the same name. The first resembles the peacock with its feathers coyly tucked back (Peacock Workshop, 12pm-2pm), and the second resembles the peacock with its iridescent feathers on full display (Feathered Peacock Workshop, 2:30pm-4:30pm). Both present a healthy challenge and have an empowering effect. Expect to have fun, expect to be challenged, and expect to surprise yourself with what you can do!
The Peacock is unlike any other arm balance - the position of the arms, the action of the legs, and the way you engage the core muscles - which is why you need the proper preparation. Through intelligent sequencing, we will build this pose up, piece by piece, and explore a few variations along the way.
The Feathered Peacock is one of the most challenging inversions. The position of the arms relative to the body requires deep opening of the shoulders and a tremendous amount of core stabilization. Understanding the keys to success in this pose will help you to find the flexibility and strength required for this pose to blossom. We will explore many tools to make your forearm stand confident and safe so you can display your brilliant tail feathers with confidence and flair.
