Pulitzer Prize nominated environmental journalist Rosanna Xia will discuss her new book, California Against the Sea: Visions for Our Vanishing Coastline on Wednesday, March 6, 6:30pm-7:30pm, at Irvine Auditorium on the campus of Middlebury Institute of International Studies. For the last hundred years, California’s 1,200-mile Pacific coastline has enjoyed relative calm due to a rare confluence of atmospheric factors. But shifting tides exacerbated by climate change are bringing this serenity to a close with higher-than-high tides and city-leveling storms.

In this talk, Xia, who reports for the Los Angeles Times, will dive deep into the stakes, stopgaps, and potential paths forward for the coast that 27 million people call home, breaking down how environmental journalists today are writing about climate change.
