Old Capitol Books is excited to host a night of poetry readings by amazing Black Freighter Press poets Ladi Rev, Tongo Eisen-Martin, Zouhair Mussa, and Alie Jones. Join us Saturday, May 25, 6pm-8pm.
This is the highest quality poetry from some of the most critically acclaimed modern poets. Come check it out! Admission is $10 at the door, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. All money goes to the poets.
About Tongo Eisen-Martin
Tongo Eisen-Martin is the Poet Laureate of San Francisco. He is the author of Heaven Is All Goodbyes (City Lights Books, 2017), which was shortlisted for the Griffin International Poetry Prize, received the California Book Award for Poetry, an American Book Award, and a PEN Oakland Book Award. Blood on the Fog, his newest collection of poems, was published as volume 62 in the City Lights Pocket Poets Series in 2021.
About Alie Jones
Alie Jones is a self-care advocate, writer, artist, and Creole mermaid. She is a founder of Bodacious Bombshells, a wellness collective in Oakland. Alie is the Director and Co-founder of Black Freighter Press, a revolutionary press committed to the exploration of liberation. She is also the host of the podcast Chit Chat with Aliecat, exploring self-care practices and journeys of self-love.
About Ladi Rev
Ladi Rev is a poet and healer from San Francisco, with over a decade of experience working as a facilitator/educator in youth development. She has created trauma-informed youth development curriculum and workshops and is also the host of Talkn Owt Da Side of Da Necc podcast which focuses on individual healing practices.
About Zouhair Mussa
Zouhair Mussa is a Sudanese/Nubian-American community organizer and multi-disciplinary artist from West Oakland. His art is based on the life he has lived and aims at addressing that which is detrimental to him and his community. He seeks to shed light on injustices that plague the places he calls home. He uses his art to remember the fallen and uplift and inspire change.
