Slowfiber presents a Hitomezashi Sashiko Stitching Class taught by textile artist Kris Nardello on Saturday, August 23, 12:30pm-4:30pm. Fee is $85 - register here.
About the Workshop
Japanese in origin, Hitomezashi stitching is a beautiful way to mend, build strength in cloth, and to meditate. We can translate this type of sashiko directly on to jeans, skirts tops, and jackets just for the added design, but used over a patch on a pair of worn-down jeans it's magic.
Kris will show us all the different ways of marking our fabric for stitching as well as the basic running stitch that is used. You'll learn how to create complex and engaging patterns with layering threads so that the work is fun to make and to look at.
