Halloween at Compact Disco has become something like a pagan ritual disguised as a party. For all the talk of Monterey being forward-thinking, the truth is this town keeps its freaks under wraps until October 31st.

It’s a night when the timid finally flex, the glamorous explode, and the whole scene teeters between bacchanal and exorcism. The community sheds its small town skin, dripping sequins and sweat on the dance floor while the bass rattles the bones of every pilgrim who dared to show up dressed for the occasion.
