Poetry Reading by Emilie Lygren and Marie Boucher at East Village Cafe

The International Poetry Gathering of Monterey is excited to welcome poet Emilie Lygren to East Village Cafe on Thursday, October 23 at 5:30pm as part of her tour for her new book, Once I Was A Stone.

Emilie Lygren and local poet Marie Boucher will both be reading at this event.

About Emilie Lygren

Emilie Lygren is a poet and educator whose work is grounded in curiosity and reverence. She’s published poems in several literary journals and anthologies and developed dozens of publications focused on outdoor science education.

Her first collection of poems, What We Were Born For, was selected by the Young People’s Poet Laureate as the Poetry Foundation’s monthly book pick for February 2022. Emilie lives in San Rafael, California, where she wonders about oaks and teaches poetry in local classrooms.

About Marie Boucher

Marie Boucher is Assistant Professor & Program Head for English for Academic and Professional Purposes at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.

Marie's poems revolve around recurring themes of our integral relationship with the natural world and all beings. She encourages us to learn from other species. The lessons from nature inspire Marie's poetry and how we can live in greater harmony with the earth and each other.
