Monterey State Historic Park invites you to an opening reception on Thursday, October 8, 5pm-7pm, for a new exhibit at Casa Gutierrez entitled "Though Lost to Sight, In Memory Dear: An Exploration of Memento Mori and Posthumous Portraiture."

About the Exhibit

The exhibit showcases the park’s unique collection of posthumous portraits, hair wreaths, and hair jewelry that all tell the unique story of the people they belonged to. Many of these objects have never been exhibited and have come out of storage for the occasion. Together they weave a tale of family, love, loss, and societal views on death from the late colonial period through the Victorian era.

Can't make it to the reception? Stop by Casa Gutierrez's Community Art Gallery to see the exhibit! The historic adobe and gallery is open Fridays and Saturdays, 11am-4pm. Admission is free.
