The Monterey Museum of Art presents a lecture by Sam Humphrey entitled Leading School Turnaround Through the Arts on Monday, December 4 at 1pm. Admission is free for members, all others must pay museum's general admission fee to attend lecture.

Two years ago, King Elementary scored in the bottom 5% of schools in California on standardized testing. Now in its second year participating in the Turnaround Arts Program, it has transformed itself to MLK School of the Arts – on a mission to empower students to cultivate a passion for learning and identity through the arts.

As an educator for over 12 years, Sam Humphrey has served students and families from East LA to East Oakland to his current home here on the Central Coast. From teaching at the elementary and secondary levels to the principalship of MLK School of the Arts, he believes in the moral imperative of providing a first-class education to all students – an ambitious goal that he is proud to be pursuing alongside the local school community.
