The Monterey Museum of Art presents a lecture by Cristy Alyosi and Scott Graham entitled The Art and Craft of Glassblowing on Monday, December 11 at 1pm. Admission is free for members, all others must pay museum's general admission fee to attend lecture.

In this lecture, glass blowers Cristy Alyosi and Scott Graham will describe their journey through glass, from working as apprentices in vibrant glass communities to creating their own work and livelihood. Cristy and Scott will also discuss the history of glass, the technical aspects of glassblowing and the challenges it presents, and the place of glass in the greater art world. Images of their work and videos of the glassblowing process will accompany this exciting presentation.

Scott Graham and Cristy Aloysi, a husband and wife team, began their glassblowing careers at Urban Glass in Brooklyn, NY, where they became fascinated with the ancient process of glassmaking. In New York they became involved in the city’s energetic art and design world and have brought this influence into their work. In 2002, Scott and Cristy moved to Seattle, the center of the American art glass movement, to create a line of contemporary glass objects for the home. After 11 years in Seattle, the couple moved to Boulder Creek, CA where they continue to design and make original blown glass pieces.
