Old Capitol Books presents Networking Aloud: A Writers Open Mic. On Tuesday, November 15, 6pm-8pm. We'll begin with 15-20 minutes from a featured reader followed by a literary open mic. Come early and sign up for a 5-7 minute reading of your own writing from any genre: prose, screenplay, poetry, or essay.

This month’s featured writer is Garland Thompson, Jr., a poet, actor, writer, and founding director of the West Coast Championship Poetry Slam. His inspirational coaching of Monterey County high school students led to four California State Poetry Out Loud winners. Garland was the 2007-2008 Pacific Grove Poet Laureate and has performed in many Shakespearean productions as an actor with Pacific Repertory Theater in Carmel. You can watch him in action each week at the East Village Coffee Lounge in Monterey where he hosts the Rubber Chicken Poetry Slam and Open Mic.
