Old Capitol Books is pleased to announce Fishbowl Poetry, a new open mic event which opens with a featured poet (or two). On Sunday, November 25, we'll feature poets Adela Najarro and Nancy Aidé González. Readings begin at 2pm, signups for the open mic begin at 1:30pm.

Adela Najarro is the author of three poetry collections: Split Geography, Twice Told Over and My Childrens, a chapbook that includes teaching resources. With My Childrens she hopes to bring Latinx poetry into the high school and college classroom so that students can explore poetry, identity, and what it means to be a person of color in US society.

She currently teaches creative writing, literature, and composition at Cabrillo College. Every spring semester, she teaches a “Poetry for the People,” workshop at Cabrillo where students explore personal voice and social justice through poetry and spoken word. She holds a doctorate in literature and creative writing from Western Michigan University, as well as an M.F.A. from Vermont College, and is widely published in numerous anthologies and literary magazines.

Nancy Aidé González is a Chicana poet, educator, and activist. Her work has appeared in Huizache: The Magazine of Latino Literature, La Tolteca and other literary journals. Her work is featured in the Poetry of Resistance: Voices for Social Justice, Sacramento Voices Anthology, and Lowriting: Shots, Rides, and Stories from the Chicano Soul. She is currently in her second year in the doctoral program in Education at the University of the Pacific.
