This event has already passed

In honor of International Women's Day, the United Nations Association of USA, Monterey Bay Chapter presents a screening of the award-winning documentary film Soufra on Friday, March 8 at 7pm at Ivine Auditorium in the McCone Building on the campus of Middlebury Intstitute of International Studies. Admission is free.

Soufra is the wildly inspirational story of Mariam Shaar, the world’s most unlikely entrepreneur and a generational refugee who has spent her entire life in the Burj El Barajneh refugee camp just south of Beirut, Lebanon. The film follows Mariam as she sets out against all odds to change her fate by launching a successful catering company, “Soufra,” and then expand it into a food truck business with a diverse team of fellow refugee woman who now share this camp as their home.

The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion, Q&A session, and a reception. Soufra cookbooks will be available for purchase to benefit the women who work with Mariam Shaar at the Burl El Barajneh refugee camp in Lebanon.
