Free Talk at First Theater: Shipwrecks of the Monterey Peninsula
This event has already passed
Monterey State Historic Park invites you to learn about the ships that met their demise along the rocky Monterey Peninsula coastline during a free presentation - “Shipwrecks of the Monterey Peninsula” - on Saturday, October 18 at 7pm in California’s First Theater.
The presentation begins promptly at 7pm but guests may arrive any time after 6pm for refreshments in the theater garden and to walk around the historic building before the presentation.
About the Talk
Hear the story of how the Natalia crashed on the sands north of Monterey in 1834 and how one of Monterey’s oldest buildings was constructed from its remains. Listen to a first-hand account of how the whaling vessel Commodore Rodgers was intentionally beached to save its cargo from the depths of the bay in 1837. See amazing photographs of the Roderick Dhu, a 75-foot-long ship that ran aground on Asilomar Beach in 1909, causing it to become a temporary shoreline attraction.
For more information about the event, please call 831-649-2907. The talk is appropriate for all ages.
