Join us at Cooper-Molera Adobe for a special Women’s History Month Author Talk with local author Mary Smathers. Smathers will read from and discuss her books Unfamiliar Territory and In This Land of Plenty, sharing reflections on powerful women stories that shaped California and the American West.
The program will also highlight the women who stewarded Cooper-Molera Adobe, connecting Smathers’ writing with the lives and legacies of mothers, daughters and caretakers who shaped the historic adobe site. Read more about Smathers books here.

About the Author
Mary Smathers is an accomplished author and educator with deep roots in California and a passion for Latin America. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Latin American Studies from UC Berkeley and two Master’s degrees in Secondary Education and Educational Administration from Stanford University. During her 30-year career dedicated to California public school students, families, and teachers, she served as a high school teacher, administrator, and educational entrepreneur, helping to found three education companies and a public charter school.
