Residential Parking Program Update for New Monterey

This event has already passed

The City of Monterey is holding a Residential Parking Program Requalification Update for the New Monterey Neighborhood on Wednesday, April 1 at 6pm at Hilltop Park Center.

Requalification? What's That?

The City of Monterey Parking Division is now conducting the requalification process for the updated Residential Parking Permit Program in New Monterey.

The residential parking permit program is voluntary for each neighborhood in Monterey. Your registration for the program during the requalification process helps confirm whether the people in your neighborhood still want the program under the updated structure, which includes virtual permits and an annual permit fee.

Residents in New Monterey who have received a requalification notice are encouraged to review the materials and complete the quick online registration process if they wish to continue the program on their street. Registration is free and confirms interest only.

Why Should I Care?

In New Monterey, two rounds of mailed outreach have now been completed. Based on registrations received so far, participation has not yet reached the 51% level required for the program to continue. But an additional progress update letter will be mailed to share this status with residents and provide one final opportunity to register before the current parking permits expire on April 30, 2026.

If requalification thresholds for the residential parking program are not reached before April 30 (i.e., if at least 51% of people haven't indicated interest), the on-street permit parking restrictions will be removed and the New Monterey neighborhood will not be eligible to reapply for the program for at least 3 years.

This meeting on April 1 is an opportunity to ask questions, review next steps, and ensure you have the information necessary to make an informed decision.
