The Stanton Center Museum hosts a free artist reception showcasing the work of local artist Tony Klaas on Saturday, March 16, 2pm-4pm.

From his early influences in the theater to encounters with iconic figures like Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso, Klaas's journey is reflected in his ever-evolving art. Explore his distinct styles over the decades, from surrealism to landscape realism, all bound by his belief in the transformative power of color.

The Foolish Times invites you to help us clean up Downtown Old Monterey streets - let's beautify our beloved Downtown in honor of Earth Day!

Check in at 9am at the Stanton Center at Custom House Plaza. Bags, buckets, gloves, and pickers will be provided. We'll also have donuts, coffee, water, snacks, and entertainment. All participants and families will get free admission to Stanton Center's art gallery that day!

A permanent Monterey County Elections ballot drop box for voters is installed at Monterey Public Library, available 24 hours a day until 8pm on March 5. The County will empty it on a regular basis. Just drop your ballot safely in the box at 625 Pacific Street.

Monterey County has launched a new mass notification service, Alert Monterey County , that allows them to notify residents and businesses of an emergency in your area. To get alerts, you'll need to register for an account here .

You can then select to receive alerts through landline calls, cell phone text messages, pre-recorded verbal messages, and/or email. (Alert Monterey also works with telephone devices for the deaf.)

Bamboo Reef's Alyssa Bellamy Elected to NAUI Board

Congratulations to Alyssa Bellamy, Director of Training at Bamboo Reef Dive Shop, who has been elected to the board of the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI).

Film Commission Awards 2023 Scholarships to Jasmyn Ramirez & Spencer Garcia

Congratulations to Jasmyn Ramirez, winner of the $2000 Monterey County Film Commission's Director Emeritus Richard Tyler Film Student Scholarship Award, and Spencer Garcia, recipient of a $750 runner-up award!

The scholarship will be used to help fund the CSUMB students’ graduating film productions. Ramirez’s project is When You Hear Hoofbeats , helping to shine a spotlight on rare cancers to broaden awareness.

Seeking Donations to Reopen Monterey Hostel in Spring 2024

Monterey, CA

Great news for fans of hosteling: Monterey Hostel at 778 Hawthorne Street is being renovated and is planning to reopen in the spring of 2024! But they need your financial help to get them the last mile.

The nonprofit HostelingOn took over the vacant property in early 2021 to redevelop and save the hostel, which which first opened in 2000 and closed in 2020 because of the pandemic. Construction will wrap up in early 2024 and they are working to raise $50,000 to fund beds, mattresses, and bedding so they can begin welcoming travelers from around the world.
