After 30 years of serving the Monterey community, Yann Lusseau and Anne Parker Johnson, the owners of Parker-Lusseau Pastries and Cafe, have retired. We want to thank them for their many years of kindness, community spirit, and amazing food that buoyed our hearts.

The good news is that Yann and Anne are "passing the rolling pin" to Jeanne Brooks of Bees Knees Bakery, who's been providing quality baked goods to local farmers markets and coffee shops in the area since 2020.

A baker for more than 20 years with a strong background in French baking, Jeanne hails from the east coast where she's worked in just about every branch of pastry, notably Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill, Gramercy Tavern, Equus Relais & Chateaux, and The Midwife And The Baker. Jeanne has been working at Parker-Lusseau since mid-February, familiarizing herself with its staff, recipes, and techniques (including chocolate production).

We want to wish Yann and Anne a wonderful retirement and congratulate Jeanne on this new journey. We encourage you to stop by the cafe at 539 Hartnell in Downtown Monterey and enjoy all your favorite sweet treats...plus the new ones to come.

Come on down to East Village Cafe to enjoy some fresh baked sourdough loaves! Every Friday, Sarah of Wild Branch Baking Co., a Salinas micobakery, restocks her shelf at East Village with mini sourdough loaves: Jalapeño Cheddar, Artisan, and Cinnamon Swirl. You can also buy her amazing Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Sourdough Cookies at the counter.

Want to try a sample of the loaves first? Ask at East Village's counter for a taste. East Village Cafe is located at 498 Washington Street in Downtown Monterey.

Did you know? The Hot Spot, Downtown Monterey's community art space, offers 6 different arts and crafts to enjoy making with friends and family of all ages at our studio at 458 Alvarado Street.

That's right! You can sit down together at a table, and each of you can choose to paint pottery, paint a blank canvas, create a mosaic, make a candle, design a fairy garden, or mix slime. (We recommend the slime for your little ones. They love it!)

Walk-ins and Reservations

For groups of 6 people, it's recommended to book a reservation in advance. Otherwise, just walk on in when we're open: Sun-Tue & Thu, 11am-7pm; Fri-Sat, 11am-8pm. (Closed Wednesdays).

Painting Pottery

Please be aware that pottery projects can't be taken home the same day you paint them - they need to be glazed and fired in our kiln before pick-up. But if you don't live nearby, we're happy to ship the finished product to you when they're done.

On The Beach Surf Shop is about to celebrate our 40th anniversary and we've just introduced our new commemorative t-shirts, long sleeves, hoodies, and men's tanks to the store. It's a Good Vibes logo celebrating 40 years of On The Beach!

Visit us at 693 Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey to pick up your limited edition statement piece.

As reported in the Edible Monterey Bay Newsletter of March 17, 2026:

"The folks working to revive Monterey's historic Osio Theater are seeking a culinary partner to fill the space that used to house the much-missed Cafe Lumiere on Calle Principal. They are looking for an independent cafe, coffee roaster, baker and/or chef-operator interested in creating a welcoming gathering space serving artists, audiences, and the surrounding neighborhood.

"According to board member Olivia Russell, 'The concept is well suited for coffee, pastries, light meals and simple prepared foods that complement the creative atmosphere of the center.' Potential partners are asked to contact organizer Brant Wilkinson by March 27 with a short description of their brand, cuisine and experience."
