Campbell Con

Posted on July 26th, 2016 by Campbell Community Center

The bite sized, very accessible, and inexpensive comic convention returns for a return engagement to Campbell! It's ideal for families, people who just want to get a taste of the "comic con" scene, or hard core fans looking for a change of pace with a more intimate affair. Look in our albums for some photos from last year's Campbell Con if you want to see what it was like. Tickets are only $10! Compare that to the $55 cost for an adult for a day at the big shows before you throw in parking and hotel into the mix. It really is the neighborhood pop culture convention that it's billed as.

The New Monterey Business Association welcomes Tricycle Pizza to the Lighthouse District! The new restaurant is located at 899 Lighthouse Avenue at the corner of Lighthouse and David. Hours are currently Wednesday-Friday, 3pm-9pm (or until out of dough) and Saturday, 12pm-9pm (or until out of dough). The restaurant will be closed on Saturday, July 30.

Does the name Tricycle Pizza sound familiar? In 2012, owner Danica Alvarado's passion for cooking and entertaining developed into an idea to create a novel catering experience using pizza, one of her favorite dishes, as the focal point. After launching in 2012, Tricycle Pizza has quickly developed a strong reputation as some of the finest pizza in California. Danica and her team at Tricycle Pizza put their heart and soul into making sure their wood-smoked pizza is something they can be proud to serve and you'll love to eat.

Monterey Seibukan Academy invites you to come check out our back to school specials! We offer classes in Seibukan Jujutsu for children ages 5 and up, and for adults. The first class is free! Please contact us for more information, 831-375-6797.

Seibukan Jujutsu is modern-day martial art based on ancient Japanese practices intended for self-defense and self-development. It encourages the use of verbal de-escalation, ideally preventing the use of physical force. You will gain a higher understanding of how the body moves, or doesn't move, using strikes, throws, pins, joint manipulation, weapon disarms, and multiple-attacker scenarios. The philosophical aspect of the art improves your relationship with yourself, others, and the global community. The practice of the martial way cultivates the internal connection between the mind, the body, and the spirit. The overall goal is to create balance in your life.

The Lighthouse District's own EMC Planning Group has been awarded the Association of Environmental Professionals’ "Outstanding Planning Document Award" for its work on the City of Salinas Economic Development Element.

EMC Planning Group, in coordination with Salinas Planning and Research Corporation and the City of Salinas, prepared an economic development element for integration into the City’s general plan. EMC Planning Group led a team of interdisciplinary consultants including economic development, public outreach, and urban design specialists. The primary components of the process included economic development visioning, an extensive public outreach effort, analysis of existing and future development market conditions, evaluation of opportunities and constraints (planning, policy, natural resources, environmental), preparation of an economic development vision map, and preparation of the economic development element. The economic development vision focuses on safety, jobs, and health.

The economic development strategy will guide the City’s future economic development efforts and land use decisions, with the end goal of promoting business retention and creation, generating employment opportunities, facilitating workforce development, and enhancing quality of life for the City’s residents.
