That's a good question with multiple answers that depend on personal preferences and budget, and the Lighthouse District's own Carpets and Floors, Inc. has some answers in this blog post.

Will you be happy with a runner on each side of the bed? If yes, then a 4' X 6' to a 5' X 8' should suffice. If your bed is flanked by a couple of nightstands and you want a rug that sits under your bed but not under your night stands and projects all the way around the bed by a good margin, then you will need at least a 8' X 10' to a 9' X 12' rug. Increase the size of the rug to a 10' X 14' to a 12' X 15 ' if you want to cover most of the floor around your bed, nightstands, and bench at the end of the bed.
