Save Old Capitol Books!

Posted on April 24th, 2020 by Old Capitol Books

Over the years, Monterey's Old Capitol Books has been not only a new and used bookstore, but also a community center featuring poetry readings, philosophy reading groups, live music, experimental art performances, non-profit meetings, and more. During these extremely difficult times, store owners Ali and Stephanie are thinking of innovative ways to try to keep the business afloat, but they need your help.

If you're able, please consider supporting Old Capitol Books by donating to the Old Capitol Books GoFundMe Campaign, purchasing a gift certificate, buying a Quarantine Care Package, or liberating a book from their shelves via the online catalog.

Donate to the MIIS Student Emergency Fund

Posted on April 22nd, 2020 by Middlebury Institute

The Middlebury Institute community has come together to help students experiencing unexpected financial needs related to the pandemic. In just over a week, more than $27,000 was raised from staff, faculty, Student Council, alumni, and friends to create the MIIS Student Emergency Fund, which will provide small grants to students facing financial hardship.

“We know the current crisis has been not only upsetting but also extremely financially difficult for a lot of students, and we saw this as the best way to make sure as many students as possible can get some help,” says Student Council President Jaewon Oh.

Current students in need can complete a short application requesting up to $250. Requests are reviewed and approved weekly and funds are typically distributed within 7-14 days. Expenses related to loss of wages, technology for remote learning, unexpected travel, and medical and mental health services not covered by insurance are covered by the Fund.

Requests to the fund will be accepted through May 8. To donate to the fund, please click here. For more Information please phone Eva Gudbergsdottir, 831-647-6606.
