The City of Monterey is considering a bicycle sharing program. Bicycle sharing would connect people to entertainment, employment, academic and military institutions, and other local public transit. If you are a resident of Monterey, please take this 10-question survey to let the City of Monterey know what type of bicycle sharing program might best serve our city.

What is bicycle sharing? Bicycle sharing provides a network of bicycles available at self-serve kiosks around the city. Users are able to access the bicycles with the use of a card and purchasing a daily, weekly, monthly, or annual membership. Most existing systems allow users to make as many trips as often as they like without additional charge provided they return the bicycles to a kiosk within 30 to 60 minutes (small graduated fees are incurred for keeping a bike beyond the time limit). Users can pick up a bicycle at any self-serve kiosk and return it to any other kiosk located within the system's service area. Kiosks are situated at key locations and provide a cost-effective mobility option for trips too far to walk but too costly to make by taxi or private vehicle.

The Presidio of Monterey and the Defense Language Institute has announced that the Taylor Street Gate will be closed to vehicle traffic effective at midnight on Sunday, November 6, 2016 until further notice. The pedestrian turnstile at Taylor Gate will remain operational for DoD ID card holders 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

To offset the impact of inbound commuter traffic, improve traffic flow, and enhance safety on Lighthouse Avenue during peak hours, the Bolio Street entrance from Lighthouse Avenue will be blocked from 6:30am-8:30am on weekdays. Presidio officials remind community members to allow more time when accessing the Presidio of Monterey, either as an employee or visitor. For more information, please contact 831-242-5555.
