On the Beach Surf Shop is proud to sponsor the 2013 Monterey Bay Skate Jam Series! The one and only monthly skateboarding event on the Monterey Peninsula, our skate jams are designed to be a fun and interactive competitive event for riders, friends, and family alike. With a live DJ, product tosses, food, and drinks (and, on occasion, demos, games of skate, and other fun events), we invite skaters, friends, and family to come out and enjoy the day with us.

There are 4 age divisions: 8 and under, 9-12, 13-15, and 16 and up. Riders will be judged based on (in order of importance): creativity, style, consistency, variety (in tricks and use of obstacles), and difficulty.

Sign-ups start at 10am, contests start at 11am. Normally, the event runs until 3pm. Dates and locations are as follows:

Beginning April 14, 2013, San Jose Water Company will be conducting road work in Downtown Campbell, 10pm-6am, Sunday nights to Friday mornings. On some days, the work hours may be extended to 10am. Expect road closures during those hours. Water services will not be interrupted.

Why the hassle? San Jose Water Company will be retiring its 79 year old water main in Downtown Campbell and will replace the main with new pipeline along East Campbell Avenue from 3rd Street to the railroad tracks. The work will also include a water main replacement on Central Avenue from East Campbell Avenue to City Hall.

Beginning the week of April 21, 2013 there will be Mainline trenching on E. Campbell Avenue. This work will progress from east to west, block by block. It is anticipated that it will take approximately one week to trench per city block.

For more information, please read the SJ Water Company's notice; download the work map; or contact San Jose Water Company's Contractor, Lewis & Tibbitts, at 408-925-0220 or San Jose Water Company at 408-279-7900.

Trying to reduce your waste? Ma's Green Living in New Monterey's Lighthouse District has signed up with Terracycle to become a collection point for the Tom's of Maine Natural Care Brigade! That means we're now accepting certain personal care and oral hygiene items for recycling.

Ma's Green Living is now collecting: mouthwash bottles and caps, deodorant containers and caps (non-aerosol only), toothpaste tubes and caps, soap packaging, floss containers, and toothbrushes. Just stop by and drop them off!

The more items we recycle, the more money Tom's of Maine will donate to our selected charity, Save Our Shores, a non-profit marine conservation organization based in Santa Cruz.

Paper Wing Theatre Company's next production will be 9 to 5: The Musical, running April 12 - May 11. Being a small but mighty community theatre has its benefits, but competing for first run Broadway shows such as this one can be difficult and expensive. We are looking to pay for the cost of an extremely sophisticated and complex set design and execution, including mobile pieces and special effects we've never dreamed of before. You can help make these dreams a reality!

Paper Wing wants to raise $2,000 in 45 days. This will offset the cost of the stage design and build. It will also employ a local set artist and 2 local independent construction workers, bringing money raised directly back into our community. Please consider donating to our fundraising campaign on Indiegogo.com - we have some great gifts lined up to thank you for your contribution!

Kettlebell Classes at Prime

Posted on March 11th, 2013 by Lighthouse District

Prime, located in New Monterey, invites you to join our ongoing Kettlebell Classes taught by Kari Syme on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6pm. For more information and to register, please phone us at 831-324-4993.

Let Prime introduce you to kettlebells - cannon ball shaped iron weights with handles which have been used for strength training in Eastern Europe for centuries. The off-centered weight of the kettlebell fully engages your core and involves use of your body's strength, power, and endurance. Our aim is to strengthen the core and back muscles, increase dynamic flexibility, and greatly improve stability and agility.

The annual Bunnies and Bonnets Parade in Downtown Campbell is a family and community affair held on the day before Easter following the City of Campbell's annual Easter Egg Hunt. In past years, the parade has featured marching bands, baton dancers, classic cars, bagpipers, floats, dog clubs, and other assorted things of interest that make up the Campbell area community.

The parade is now approaching its 15th anniversary and we're seeking participants to help us make this year's parade the best one yet. If your group, club, or organization would like to march/participate in this year's parade on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 12pm, please download the 2013 Parade Application Form and return it by Wednesday, March 13, 2013.

Participation is free for the general community and $50 for commercial floats. The parade will not be judged and no prizes will be awarded. This is all just for fun!

Applications for the sixth annual Monterey County Film Commission's $2,000 scholarship for film students are now being accepted. Forms for the scholarship, now named the Director Emeritus Richard Tyler Scholarship Award, may be downloaded from MCFC's website. Deadline to submit applications is April 5, 2013.

The scholarship program was created to provide financial aid and incentive to students of film and beginning filmmakers who reside in Monterey County or are currently enrolled in a community college or university in the county. The fund was established as a permanent endowment with the Community Foundation for Monterey County. For additional information, please contact the film commission at 831-646-0910.
