Midweek Midday Classes Update
Monday and Wednesday midday classes are now being held 12pm-1pm. We understand that this might make it difficult to arrive on time or leave on time because of your work schedule. We're happy to work with you in a way that allows for a non-disruptive late arrival or early departure.

Below are the showtimes for Osio Theater, an independent, locally-owned movie theater located at 350 Alvarado Street in Old Monterey, August 17-23, 2018.

ARRANGIARSI (PIZZA...AND THE ART OF LIVING)
Thursday, August 23 at 7pm

In this fascinating and philosophical first-person travelogue, Matteo begins with no job, no relationship, and no home. He moves into a 1985 VW van, traces his roots to Naples, birthplace of pizza, and discovers "arrangiarsi," the art of making something from nothing. He realizes he's not only "living the film," but needs to master arrangiarsi to survive. Watch the trailer.

Tracing their joys, challenges, tragedies, and triumphs, the film invites viewers to rethink what it means to be a “normal family.” Watch the trailer.

Free Emergency Skills Training: Monterey CERT, Fall 2018

Posted on August 7th, 2018 by lighthouseave

The next Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) emergency training program begins in Monterey on September 6, 2018. Teens through older adults are encouraged to attend. Classes continue Thursday nights, 6:30pm-9:30pm, through October 18. Anyone may enroll by sending an e-mail of interest - you will receive a confirmation with class details.

You'll learn about emergency medicine, fire extinguishers, disaster preparedness, shutting off your utilities, rescue, communications when phones fail, and assessing a home or workplace after an earthquake or storm.

The CERT program uses a FEMA curriculum to educate people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist their families and others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT also participates in searches for missing persons, serves as coastal spotters for persons swept out to sea, storm response, and other emergencies.

We'll be posting memories of Bob on our Facebook page to remember the biggest little celebrity in Downtown Campbell.

We at Sovino Wine Bar and Merchant love the newest addition to our "by the glass" list, Prima Materia's Aglianico! If you've never had this wine from California's Lake County, it's not to be missed! It's a great representation of Lake County as an emerging wine region.

Prima Materia wines are crafted in small batches of two to ten barrels each. The winemaking and grape growing are of the intensive hands-on and sustainable sort, often using stems and time, gravity and buckets, rather than expensive impersonal machinery. Wines are unsulfured for much of their lives, allowing them to evolve as living things and new oak is rarely used. The wines are always unfined, unfiltered, hand harvested, and hand bottled and most are estate grown.
