Direct Access to Physical Therapy Is Now Law

Posted on January 27th, 2014 by Lighthouse District

The Lighthouse District's own Bay Physical Therapy & Fitness Center wants you to know that, as of January 1, 2014, California residents have improved access to physical therapist services thanks to Assembly Bill 1000, signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown in the fall. This "direct access" law means that many people can receive physical therapy treatment without the hassle of obtaining a referral from their doctor.

Under the previous law, patients could only be seen for an evaluation, fitness and wellness services, and treatment for a condition that had been the subject of a medical diagnosis. This new law expands patient access to physical therapy for immediate treatment for up to 45 days or 12 visits, whichever comes first.

In addition to therapy, Bay Physical Therapy & Fitness Center offers gym and fitness services at a cost of only $45 per month for unlimited use during business hours (Mon-Thur 8:30am-6pm & Fri 8:30am-4:30pm) or $5 per visit.
