March 13, 2021 marks one year since the Monterey City Manager declared a local emergency due to the coronavirus. In remembrance of those lost to Covid-19 and in appreciation of all essential frontline workers, 500 hearts will be hung on the magnolia tree in Friendly Plaza (580 Pacific Street).
March 13 - April 14, Monterey residents are encouraged to stop by the “Tree of Hearts." Bring a permanent marker and write the name of someone you are remembering or appreciating on one of the hearts. (Please be sure to wear a face mask and remain socially distanced from others outside your household.)
Once you've added a name to a heart, take a photo next to the tree and email it to the City of Monterey's webmaster - photos will be posted on the City of Monterey's website. The hearts will be collected on April 14, 2021, made into a framed mosaic collage, and hung in the City Council Chamber.
