The Lighthouse District's own On The Beach Surf Shop and Sunshine Freestyle are now collecting clean, hard, white expanded polystyrene foam (the type used as packing material) for the Waste to Waves Program run by the non-profit organization Sustainable Surf. Waste to Waves will take the foam and recycle it into surfblanks, the inner core of surfboards!
What kind of foam can NOT be recycled by Waste to Waves? EPS foam containers from food service; packing "peanuts"; foam that is flexible, soft, or rubbery; and old surfboards.
