Old Fisherman's Wharf 180th Birthday Celebration

This event has already passed

Celebrate the 180th Birthday of Monterey’s historic Old Fisherman’s Wharf on Sunday, October 12, 10am-5pm. This free, family-friendly event will feature live entertainment, activities for all ages, and beautiful scenic views of Monterey Bay.

Entertainment

Don't miss hearing the award-winning Money Band, performing 1pm-4pm. And bring the kids down to meet members of Monterey Police and Fire Department, 1pm-4pm, and see a fire engine up-close. On the Wharf we'll also have plenty of festive birthday decorations, children's characters walking around, information tables, giveaways, and more.

Tour The Western Flyer

The legendary boat The Western Flyer will be available for free tours 11am-2:30pm at the California Dock (just to the left of Rockfish Harbor Grill at the end of the Wharf).

This iconic vessel, made famous by John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts during their legendary 1940 expedition to the Sea of Cortez, recently returned from retracing that historic journey. Learn more about its enduring legacy, remarkable restoration, and new life as a vessel for curiosity and learning.

See The General Pershing

The historic boat The General Pershing will also be available for photo ops just off of the Finger Pier.

In 1930, Angelo Siino, already with a growing reputation as a master boatbuilder, was commissioned by Neno DiMaggio (Joe DiMaggio's first cousin) to design and build the largest fishing boat Siino had ever attempted. The General Pershing is now being restored to its former glory and will be dedicated for use as a Classroom on the Bay: teaching Monterey youth about maritime history and the urgent need to keep our oceans clean from pollution.
