Bamboo Reef's Alyssa Bellamy Elected to NAUI Board

Monterey, CA

Congratulations to Alyssa Bellamy, Director of Training at Bamboo Reef Dive Shop, who has been elected to the board of the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI).

Alyssa will represent the West Coast and California diving, working with NAUI on updates to diving standards and improved training. Bamboo Reef is located at 614 Lighthouse Ave. Visit their website and sign up for a diving class!

Film Commission Awards 2023 Scholarships to Jasmyn Ramirez & Spencer Garcia

Monterey, CA

Congratulations to Jasmyn Ramirez, winner of the $2000 Monterey County Film Commission's Director Emeritus Richard Tyler Film Student Scholarship Award, and Spencer Garcia, recipient of a $750 runner-up award!

The scholarship will be used to help fund the CSUMB students’ graduating film productions. Ramirez’s project is When You Hear Hoofbeats , helping to shine a spotlight on rare cancers to broaden awareness.

Seeking Donations to Reopen Monterey Hostel in Spring 2024

Monterey, CA

Great news for fans of hosteling: Monterey Hostel at 778 Hawthorne Street is being renovated and is planning to reopen in the spring of 2024! But they need your financial help to get them the last mile.

The nonprofit HostelingOn took over the vacant property in early 2021 to redevelop and save the hostel, which which first opened in 2000 and closed in 2020 because of the pandemic. Construction will wrap up in early 2024 and they are working to raise $50,000 to fund beds, mattresses, and bedding so they can begin welcoming travelers from around the world. The Lighthouse District invites the community to come together to support Kim Lawson, the sole owner and operator of Fashion Trade Boutique at 554 Lighthouse Avenue.

Kim recently had open heart surgery after having several heart attacks attributed to a rare heart condition. We encourage you to contribute whatever you can to Kim's GoFundMe campaign . Every donation makes a difference to Kim while she recovers at home under doctor's orders and attempts to keep her little boutique afloat during that time.
