Prime Introduces Trainer Mina Afshari

Posted on February 9th, 2016 by lighthouseave

Prime Monterey Gym is pleased to introduce our new secret weapon: trainer Mina Afshari. When she walked into Prime, we developed an instant girl-crush because she’s developed herself with integrity as a trainer and health coach and shares an intense, bad-ass approach to functional, health-first training. Mina is an ACE certified Health Coach and Personal Trainer with a passion for clean eating and building strong, beautiful bodies.

After cancer claimed her mother at a young age, Mina wandered into a spinning class and found her will to go on renewed by the intensely physical experience. It became a daily practice, and forever anchored her life as a physical person. An injury she sustained while doing Crossfit taught her that how much weight you lift, or how fast you lift it is not as important as being strong from the inside out.

Mina works with men and women who want to improve their health, recover from injury, lose weight, and gain muscle mass. She recently moved to Monterey Bay, but she’s been a sought-after trainer in the Bay Area tech community for 6 years. Happy to receive texts and calls from her clients, she wants to be as hands-on as possible so that your steady improvement is guaranteed.

Mina is excited to work with beginner to advanced clients who are ready change their bodies with exercise and nutrition. She is currently seeing clients Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays. Call Mina at 408-515-7144 for more information.

Storm Drain Repairs in Monterey, February 16-19, 2016

Posted on February 9th, 2016 by omba

The City of Monterey will continue Measure P funded storm drain repairs February 16-19, 2016. Construction may cause traffic delays, noise, steam and harmless odors. The construction schedule, which is subject to delay, is as follows:

Jefferson St. (Calle Principal to Watson) – Tues., Feb. 16
Lighthouse Ave. (100 block) – Wed., Feb. 17
Pacific St. (Del Monte to Jefferson) – Wed., Feb. 17
Franklin St. (Calle Principal to Larkin) – Thurs., Feb. 18
Castro Rd. – Thurs., Feb. 18
Pine St. (800 block) – Fri., Feb. 19
Via Marettimo (1400 block) – Fri., Feb. 19

Construction crews access the storm drain system from manholes and insert a flexible liner. Steam inflates and cures the liner, which hardens and restores the pipe. Pipe-lining work can emit steam and a chemical odor. The odor is from the chemical styrene, which is in the resin liner installed inside the pipe. Airborne styrene is not a human health risk. Some people may be sensitive to the odor, which can linger up to 24 hours.

Funding for the rehabilitation project comes from Measure P, the voter approved one-cent increase in sales tax. If you have questions about storm drain repairs, please call the City at 831-242-8746.

New Burgers at Alvarado Street Brewery and Grill

Posted on February 5th, 2016 by omba

Keeping with the theme of "simple done well," Chef Jeremiah Tydeman and General Manager John Ferguson have decided to roll out a new burger section on the menu of Alvarado Street Brewery and Grill, offering five new varieties, including one that is entirely vegan. That's right! The 100% "Vegan Double Double" burger is unlikely anything you'd expect - two stacked, house-made vegan patties with melted vegan cheese, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, and "Animal Style" sauce made entirely with vegan products.

For the meat lover, the "Kolohe" burger features grilled spam, pineapple, fried onions, scallions, hoisin and sriracha aioli. And Chef Jeremiah is most excited about his signature patty melt, with caramelized onions, Gruyére and American cheeses, and "secret sauce" on griddled sourdough. Come on in and try one!
