The Western Flyer Sets Sail for the Gulf of California

Old Fisherman's Wharf

The legendary fishing boat, the Western Flyer, will set sail from Fisherman's Wharf on Sunday, March 16 at 3pm for an 85th anniversary expedition to the Gulf of California. All are welcome to come and join the free community celebration, 11am-3pm, rain or shine.

Enjoy live music and dancing, a 1940s costume contest, a vintage car show, hands-on science and art activities, and seeing the Western Flyer set sail with a fireboat escort and a celebratory ship horn farewell.

Play Full Ground: Alternative Education for High School Students

For years artist, educator, and Play Full Ground owner Mai Ryuno has dreamed of opening an innovative school. Now her dream is coming true. In Fall 2025, Play Full Ground, located at 550 Lighthouse Avenue, will transform into a micro high school , offering creative, alternative education for students in grades 9-12.

Mai is currently developing a school curriculum that combines art and design with academics to create a unique, engaging learning experience .

Mai invites feedback and insight from families, particularly those whose children are experiencing challenges in conventional high school. Please schedule an appointment to talk with her.
